The People that Tom S. Fox quoted said:
"This is a social phenomenon. People prefer to be around those who share the same principles and values and some see religion as the base of these values"
Actually, it is much simpler than that, and has nothing to do with values (stupid "religion means morality" crock...). It is just basic ingroup bias. In this case, they share the shame religion as you, so that is a basis of similarity. And, since they are like you, they must be good!
"You chose to be an atheist not just because you dont believe in god, but because you believe youre a better person morally when you dont believe in god. So your un-belief is actually where you derive your values from"
Close-ish. The decision to be an atheist really has nothing to do with morality, either positively or negatively, however. It really is just a lack of belief in god(s), and not much beyond that. My values are drawn from the society I live in, empathy, and simple logic, and has nothing to do with unbelief itself. And I do not believe that lack of belief leads to better morality for anyone, anymore than I believe that religiosity increases morality either.
"My guess is that your kids are probably a bit stuck up and are throwing the fact they are athiests in the other kids faces and im sure learning from their parents they mention how "stupid" it is to believe in a magical fairy tale."
A splendid assumption. Care to explain why the kids would be perturbed if they intentionally provoked the others into anger, or why they would confide in their father if they were at fault? They would hide it and roll with the punches if they were instigating the other children.
"Again i just dont see kid A saying "do you believe in jesus ..are u saved?" then your kid saying "no i dont believe in God" then Kid A saying "your going to hell you stupid or something!" then your kid going off crying"
Seriously, he can't imagine this? This is far more common of an occurence than an atheist going on an anti-god tirade in public.
"Atheism is like racism in that they are taught and not natural philosophies. We as Parents teach our children racism and atheism. A child is born ignorant of skin color and that there is a higher power. Both of these learned philosophies not only hurt a child mentally but retards them socially"
Racism may be taught, but it is also an extension of basic ingroup bias, an extension of the human ego. Atheism may be taught, but it is also the default state before children are taught about a given religion to adopt. As for the allegation that atheism stunts atheists socially: that is only because everyone else is opposed to socializing with people who are openly atheist!
"Both go against what the majority of the world believes or follows. They also tend to cause the child to grow up with a deep resentment of their parents and society."
Just because something goes against the majority doesn't make it wrong (hell, remember when the majority of our country WAS racist, not too long ago...). And, as for the resentment part: did you even listen to the original post? Did you hear about the kinds of kids he has? The only resentment that an atheist would have is towards family members and sections of society that are motivated by religious bigotry. That's pretty much the end of that, however.
"This isn't fear factor, it is serious. We tell you because it is the truth. Our eyes have been open."
Just because you keep saying doesn't make it so.
Also: Theology is serious business.
"If you knew that there was a shark at the beach, and you saw someone going into the water, would you just smile and say nothing?"
Except, you do not KNOW that the shark is there, that it is a shark, where the shark is, what the shark's intentions are, and whether your methods of saving the person going in the water is more destructive than the actual danger posed
Jeez...these people were at least 5 times as fundie as little JesusismyLight was...
