I think that what you're missing on this is that the general public is aware that evolutionism is religion, even more than creation,and they don't want either in the schools.

Evolution is holding biology back severely, and the two are not even really related. Evolution is a political/philosophical point of view, and Americans recognize that 2:1 by most polls. Why can't we just spend our science money on science? Why does a science class have to provide indoctrination? At this point the cream of the crop in life sciences mostly reject evolution, and don't waste time and efort on it; could that be why they're more productive?
