Evolution says no such thing. It is a theory, which explains how life changes. The only conflict it has with your faith is that you people insist on literal interpretation of your scriptures. Or As that noted atheist St. Augustine put things:

That's right. A Christian (next to Paul, arguably the most important Christian thinker, at that) in the 5th century, managed to figure out that the bible is not a fucking science text book. Why is it that you, a modern human who's basic education was light years beyond what Augustine had access to, can't grasp this?

--- This sentence does not make sense. It does not hang together at all. That aside, Atheists don't have that much interest in the bible to be bothered about it that much. Most would say, I imagine, that it is fine as allegory and in helping to provide some guidelines for good living to those who are not developed in conscience.

Not all atheists accept evolution, and I know of none who are "fanatical" about it. That's like being "fanatical" about the law of gravity.

Evolution has nothing to do with the origins of life, it's what happens after life starts. I've met plenty of Christians who believe in god, yet accept the evolutionary process.

Evolution IS a design agent, but solely by trial-and-error. So, no one’s hellbent for that.
