Andy Schlafly must have missed the bit where Jesus disputes with the doctors at the Temple and the many occasions on which he debates with Pharisees. There were no universities then, but rabbinical training of the sort the Pharisees provided was pretty close to the medieval idea of a university.

Andy also misses the fact that it isn't "the best of the public" that become experts in sports. An expert is not some guy sitting in a bar shouting at the screen. You can't just walk off the street into a TV station or sports officialdom and become a baseball or basketball expert, no matter how talented. You have to work your way through practice, training, exercise, week in week out, through high school and college before you come anywhere near expertise. Then, when you have had a successful career in MLB or the NBA, you can call yourself an expert. And, do you know what, that's just what academics do; they train through college, they get a PhD, they teach, they get postdocs and grants, produce research and finally they get tenure. Because they train hard and expand learning they get to be experts. Andy Schlafly by contrast, has spent his career trying to shut knowledge down.

Jesus would never be given tenure no matter how much he walked on water.

If Jesus really were God, his problem would be that he would be a primary source with primary knowledge.

At a university you have to prove your work either with repeatable emperical primary research or using secondary sources. Jesus would not be able to prove his knowledge by measly human standards.

The academic community would have to agree on a new and non-religious standard of primary, absolute knowledge, not based on faith, but rather on absolute correctness, sans proof. This standard would be restricted to one person: Jesus.

That would get him tenure and a publication series all his own.
