Actually there is much persecution today. In the Christian West with our stress on love and tolerance, the anti-Christian and anti-Jew persecution comes in many subtle forms...
It may be that workers and military personnel and professionals are given slightly lower performance ratings, or that they are socially excluded so they will quit jobs, or that gov't bureaucrats deny Christians and religious colleges equal access to grants and research funding...
And it may be that school teachers and college profs grade lower when a vocal believer is in class...
All these and a hundred more ways are non-violent persecution, but just as effective as if a thief stole a Christian's wealth at knife point.
God is greater than all these. I laugh at the enemy. The blood of martyrs is seed for the church. God will not allow us to suffer anything beyond His grace to withstand.

Sure. It's couldn't really be because these people aren't doing as well as others, or that they're unpleasant to be around. Everyone knows that screaming about how other people are going to Hell is the number one way to make yourself popular. And professors always appreciate it when you disrupt class to spew bullshit.
I know exactly what L:ovesTruth is talking about. In my university communications class, everyone had to write a persuasive speech and give it to the class. Among the student body were two devout Christians.
In their speeches they went off on tangents, employed hyperbole, and used several logical fallacies- apparently thinking that invoking the name of Jesus would be enough to overcome all that and convince people that their stance was the right one. It wasn't and the instructor called them on it.
We must fight this kind of discrimination! It's forcing Christians to think and work things out in a coherent fashion! How could we thrust such a terrible burden on those who clearly don't want it!

How does a "Christian" region persecute Christians, you absolute cretin?
It may be that workers and military personnel and professionals are given slightly lower performance ratings
Couldn't be that they don't do as good a job (partly because they think it doesn't matter since the Rapture is coming Real Soon Now), could it?
or that they are socially excluded so they will quit jobs
Couldn't be the fact that the typical fundie has all the personality of a cheese grater, could it?
or that gov't bureaucrats deny Christians and religious colleges equal access to grants and research funding...
You can get all the private funding you want, and the government won't stop you. There's just a little thing called "separation of church and state" which basically means that if the government were to support schools of one religion, they'd have to support schools of every other religion that wanted funding as well (and, for that matter, anti-religious schools).
And it may be that school teachers and college profs grade lower when a vocal believer is in class...
Couldn't be that you wrote "Goddidit" as the answer on all the exams instead of actually learning the material, could it?
Enough with the fucking persecution complex. YOU ARE THE FUCKING MAJORITY! Repeat after me until it sinks in:
Giving rights I already enjoy to others does not constitute persecution.
Giving rights I already enjoy to others does not constitute persecution.

"CHRISTIANS ARE BEING PERSECUTED"
Ever hear the phrase, "You can dish it out, but you can't take it"? That's what's happening when Fundamentalists use this statement. They have been on the attack for years now, trying to deny rights to homosexuals, trying to outlaw abortions, trying to keep women from obtaining equal rights, and trying to impose their own morals - many of them non-biblical - on the rest of society. Non-Fundamentalists are finally fighting back by speaking out against their campaigns, their media onslaughts, and their mistaken notions of truth, and the Fundamentalists don't like it very much. They can dish it out, but they can't take it. So when people of good conscience stand up for their rights, Fundamentalists cry foul - they claim they are being persecuted.
Fundamentalists see this "persecution" as biblical proof of being on God's side. It's not. Their so-called persecution is merely the rest of society defending itself from their attacks. Their so-called persecution is merely being called to the carpet for their actions. Their so-called persecution comes in the form of editorials that don't paint them in a glowing light or legislation that goes against their made-truths. If they can't get their schools to allow them to pray to their God during class time, they claim they are being attacked. What would happen if Buddhists and Muslims tried to get the same special rights? Fundamentalists would be beside themselves in anger.
This is not the persecution mentioned in the Bible. The leaders of the Christian Coalition are not being hung on crosses (Philippians 2:8). The leaders of the Family Research Council are not being stoned to death (Acts 7:59). The leaders of Focus on the Family are not being thrown to the lions (Daniel 6:16). And yet these people have the gall to claim they are being persecuted in God's name. They are not. All they have to worry about is someone calling them bad names and denying them their request for favoritism.
Well, let me tell you something. If you only consider yourself free if the state sponsors your belief without taking into account the others, you must sink in the ocean. Or just think and be sensible.
Obviously nothing fuels believers' ardour further than persecution. They have a way to think that if those evil secular atheistic hedonistic immoral liberal new agey or homosexual crowds hate them, then they must be doing something right. Fundamentalist christianity thrives on us-vs-them mentality, and what would fuel their conviction further than having people supposedly persecuting them, even if it involves just, indeed, as someone has said, calling bad names and deny requests for arbitrary favoritism.
>>Christian's wealth<<
Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the Holy Bible, the unimpeachable word of God tell Christians to give to the poor, therefore no Christian should have any wealth. Something about a needle and a camel or some such nonsense.
God will not allow us to suffer anything beyond His grace to withstand
God must be REALLY weak, if he can't stop his believers from "suffering" the fact that they can't entirely have their way in the small, pointless minority of America's affairs (e.g. gay marriage, creationism, etc.)
Also, does anyone remember that pic posted around a couple of months back, which summarised the "persecution" these guys are suffering? (It had various pictures of injustices occuring throughout history, labelled as persecution, and then featured a picture of within a huge modern-day evangelical church, labelled "not persecution")
"Actually there is much persecution today."
More today than when?
"In the Christian West with our stress on love and tolerance, the anti-Christian and anti-Jew persecution comes in many subtle forms..."
Oh, waaah. Shut up. Not getting to trample non-Xian's rights and force your delusions on them is not persecution.
"It may be that workers and military personnel and professionals are given slightly lower performance ratings, or that they are socially excluded so they will quit jobs, or that gov't bureaucrats deny Christians and religious colleges equal access to grants and research funding..."
It may be that pigs fly at midnight. If you have evidence that Xians are being mistreated because of their Xianity present it in court. If not, keep your paranoia delusions to yourself. You know, accusing non-Xians unjustly is lying, and you remember what "God" said about lying, don't you?
"And it may be that school teachers and college profs grade lower when a vocal believer is in class..."
There SHOULD be action taken if that "vocal believer" is being vocal at inappropriate times. There may be a time and place for evangelizing, but in public school is not it.
"All these and a hundred more ways are non-violent persecution, but just as effective as if a thief stole a Christian's wealth at knife point."
Yeah, yeah, yeah. All you've presented are several unsupported "it may be" statements. If those things are happening, take it to court. If not, quit whining.
"God is greater than all these."
If "God" is so great, why does he allow such horrible, oppressive treatment of his Xian worshippers?
"I laugh at the enemy."
And, we laugh at you.
"The blood of martyrs is seed for the church. God will not allow us to suffer anything beyond His grace to withstand."
But, apparently, "God" DOES want you to suffer.
In the Christian West with our stress on love and tolerance
Repeatedly telling atheists and homosexuals and other assorted non-believers that they are going to burn in hell, as most of you Christians spend your time doing, is hardly stressing 'love and tolerance'. Christians only love other Christians and they only tolerate other Christians. Everyone else is a 'heathen' that is going to burn forever on the river Styx. "I'm sailing away...."
If being a vocal believer in class involves disruption of the course, then you deserve what you get. Most profs will be very understanding of dissent as long as it is voiced in a rational manner and backed up with evidence.
If, however, you are a christian in an Evolutionary Biology course and causing trouble, you don't just deserve downgrading, you should be kicked out of the course.
Unlike public school, Universities and Colleges are a priveledge. Profs don't have to put up with your shit. If you don't like it, go to BJU.
"It may be that workers and military personnel and professionals are given slightly lower performance ratings, or that they are socially excluded so they will quit jobs, or that gov't bureaucrats deny Christians and religious colleges equal access to grants and research funding..."
Or that could be just pure, unsubstantiated, speculative nonsense, which it is.
"And it may be that school teachers and college profs grade lower when a vocal believer is in class...
Or that could be just pure, unsubstantiated, speculative nonsense, which it is.
You don't have the faintest bit of actual support for your assertion of "persecution" -- you just have made up further fantasies to add to the first one. Building extra towers on your castle in the clouds won't make it any more real.
~David D.G.
If you don't get good performance ratings, it is most likely due to the fact that you are not very good
If you are socially excluded, it probably means you are an asshole
If religious colleges don't get equal grants, maybe it is because they don't do serious research
If your grades are shitty, study harder or admit that you are not that smart
Visit the link I placed above the animation. I am a frequent visitor of ytmnd.com and I inadvertently found it via a google search for "'LOL' site; ytmnd.com" . What I was trying to do was look through the 'LOL, internet' trend sites, but then this one jumped up.
E.H., Joe and Writingismyreligion (love that name) have great points.
And through all of the "we're being persecuted, poor-poor us" crap he says that god will protect them from suffering. So which is it? Oh I see, you just wanted to bitch for a while. Guess that glow of christian love is getting alittle dim.
Everyone's already busted up the bs in the first part of the statment, so I'll just note the last:
"God will not allow us to suffer anything beyond His grace to withstand". Of course, if someone finally snaps, it'll be the person's fault, since "god never lets us suffer more than we can withstand". How in hell could that statement ever be tested?
No matter what happens, it'd either be: "See, we were right, it WAS less than you could take" OR "It's YOUR fault! God would never give you more than you can take!"
"It may be"? It may be that you just made those up, and you have never seen any evidence to suggest they are true, you just needed hypothetical situations to "prove" that Christians are being persecuted.
In fact, it is.
Actually there is much persecution today.
Quite true. Jews in Iran, Christians in Afganistan, atheists in America, and much more.
In the Christian West with our stress on love and tolerance...
*suppressed giggle*
...the anti-Christian and anti-Jew persecution comes in many subtle forms.
[voice= Bill Maher] People who have all the power can't complain that they're underdogs! [/voice]
Look, buddy: Christians make up 85% of the population and control all three branches of government. How exactly are you being persecuted?
Also: Quit trying to lump Jews in there with you. We've been persecuted for centuries, far more than any Christian ever has. By and large, we've been persecuted by Christians. It takes a special kind of asshole to try and claim our persecution as yours. You haven't been Jews ever since you started worshipping that idol, Jesus.
It may be that workers and military personnel and professionals are given slightly lower performance ratings...
Christian workers are given low performance ratings? Do you have any evidence of this? Of course, their superiors are likely Christian themselves!
...or that they are socially excluded so they will quit jobs...
Yeah, I'm sure the 15% of their coworkers who aren't Christian would "socially exclude" them to make them quit. Idiot, Christians make up 85% of the population! I'm sure a small minority is going to make you feel all sad and lonely by excluding you.
Where's your evidence that non-Christians would even want to exclude Christians? Just because you want to kill all of us doesn't mean we have anything against you.
...or that gov't bureaucrats deny Christians and religious colleges equal access to grants and research funding...
Hello, anybody in there? Many scientists are Christian. They get government grants anyway. In fact, the officials who give the grants are nearly all Christian!
Of course, no scientist, Christian or not, will ever get a grant to study a topic that the Christians declare they don't like. Stupid, you and your fellow Christians are telling scientists what they can and can't study! Stop whining about being "persecuted!"
You should also know that we have a seperation of government and religion. This prohibits giving government money to religious brainwashing institutes even if they call themselves "universities."
And it may be that school teachers and college profs grade lower when a vocal believer is in class.
No teacher or professor would give a student a low grade solely for being Christian. Many are Christian themselves. Of course, a student who interupts class to pray or preach may be given a low grade or kicked out. The same applies to students who answer "Goddidit" or who refuse to do work that they consider against their religion.
All these and a hundred more ways [del]are[/del] would be non-violent persecution if they happened.
Fix'd
...but just as effective as if a thief stole a Christian's wealth at knife point.
What wealth? Christians aren't supposed to have any wealth! Doesn't your Bible say something about rich men, camels, heaven, and the eyes of needles?
God is greater than all these.
Ah, so God is greater than your persecution and you're being persecuted? Way to contradict yourself in one post there.
I laugh at the enemy.
We laugh at you for laughing at a nonexistant enemy.
The blood of martyrs is seed for the church.
The blood of martyrs??! Stupid, the worst you have to deal with is being told that you can't make others do what you tell them to do.
Oy, what's with these fundies today? They tell atheists that they have to become Christians and the atheists say no, so they stab themselves and rant about how their spilled blood is seed for the church and complain they're being persecuted by the atheists.
God will not allow us to suffer anything beyond His grace to withstand.
Assuming God can deal with anything, your sentence says that God might make you suffer far beyond your own ability to withstand.
Anyway, LcolonovesTruth, Christians are acutally being persecuted in places like Afganistan. Maybe you should help them out, like the non-Christians do instead of whining how you're being persecuted because you can't always force others to do what you say.
Atheists are persecuted in America, but the Christians claim we're persecuting them because they don't have absolute power over us or the ability to kill us.
@JadedRevengeThe Christian persecution is horrible. I, for one, am waiting for that day when A christian will overcome the persecution to become the president of the united states.
The fact is that no True Christian has ever become President. Unfortunately, no True Christian will ever become President, since every Christian is a "false Christian" to some Christian.
@solomongrundyNah, a few well-chosen words from a creationist student will stop any unthinking evilutionist professor in his tracks.
I read it in a Chick tract, so it must be true.

Ha ha!
Mad Dog: That's funny.

It may be that pigs fly at midnight.
I am a pig, and I can assure you that I have flown at midnight.
*Yawn* I am not going to take the red-eye flight ever again.
