My neighbor and I were talking about this today. She told me about a conversation she had with another Christian about stocking up on stuff. About how Christians are about to face persecution and it's starting somewhat now with "gay rights vs the church" issues. She's also convinced the Rapture is going to happen very soon. I didn't realize till today just how "on the same page" we were. It was a nice long conversation.
Recently, it was reported that Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama proclaimed that America was not a Christian nation. He stated that Christianity was just one of many religions that were prevalent in America today.

How is it persecution to give somebody else rights equal to yours?
[It was a nice long conversation.]
Question: Have you ever talked as long to a gay person?
[...Barack Obama proclaimed that America was not a Christian nation. He stated that Christianity was just one of many religions that were prevalent in America today.]
Is there any part of this statement that is factually incorrect?
Show me ONE, just ONE politician or military leader who has stated he will go after Christians and throw them in jail because of their faith and I will give you my entire life savings.
Go fuck yourselves with your persecution complex.
About how Christians are about to face persecution and it's starting somewhat now with "gay rights
I hope you fucking die, long and painful.
It's discussions like this one that make me love Barack Obama even more. When he's running against people who think the Founding Fathers intended for "In God We Trust" to be on the currency and "Under God" in the pledge, it makes me happy to see that at least Obama isn't too strung-up on his religion to separate historical fact from wishful thinking.
Treaty of Tripoli
Art. 11. As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion; as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion, or tranquillity, of Mussulmen; and, as the said States never entered into any war, or act of hostility against any Mahometan nation, it is declared by the parties, that no pretext arising from religious opinions, shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries.

You guys should have already known this. Don't they, like, take surveys on that or something?
For gods' sake let's rebuild a colosseum and buy some hungry lions. Hell, we could even borrow some from circuses and zoos.
These people are crying out to be persecuted, and much as it goes against my nature to harm any creature, I ammoved to tears by their pathetic need. Could be not at least on this occasion facilitate them and turn them into martyrs? Have we no pity for their great need to be dead?
As to being a Christian nation - no way. Treaty of Tripoli negates this little ploy. Back to your persecution you fundies!
He stated that Christianity was just one of many religions that were prevalent in America today.
And he was wrong? Is there really no one in the US who isn't a Christian? Or does this moron believe that everyone in the US is Christian?
Recently, it was reported that Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama proclaimed that America was not a Christian nation. He stated that Christianity was just one of many religions that were prevalent in America today.
And he's 100% correct on that one. Second, I don't see how you're being persecuted. If anyone is persecuted for their beliefs, it's atheists.
She told me about a conversation she had with another Christian about stocking up on stuff. About how Christians are about to face persecution and it's starting somewhat now with "gay rights vs the church" issues.
I honestly can't believe how easy it is for a group to feel 'persecuted'.
The Christians in the US make up the majority of the populace. They control the government. You have to be Christian to be President. How on Earth could Christians become persecuted in this setting?! Or does "persecuted" mean something else in fundie Newspeak than in English?
What about atheists who aren't allowed to be boy scouts or hold public office in certain states? Are we "persecuted" in fundiespeak?

SO? He's right. It isn't. It is.
So?
Affording people of other religions and sexual orientations the same rights that Christians have had for centuries does not equal persecution of Christians. If you're a white, heterosexual, English speaking Christian living in the western world, chances are that you're not being persecuted. Christians in North American can publicly express their beliefs without being imprisoned, denied property or killed. There are no signs in shop windows saying, "non-Christians only", nor are there employers refusing to hire people just because they're Christian. Getting made fun of on the internet isn't persecution, nor is it something that only happens to Christians. EVERYONE is insulted for their gender/beliefs/orientation/politics/choice of OS/etc. at some point in time while browsing online (and occasionally while offline, out in the real world) -- the only difference is that the rest of us accept that having to deal with jerks is unavoidable in life, and don't run around crying "Persecution!" the instant someone calls us a "faggot" on YouTube.
Look! The RR sister site. How uncute!
Seriously though got to love the long thread on Christians being persecuted because some lady's roommate 'threatened' her for being a Christian. Who wants to take bets that didn't come about because she was a Christian but because she wouldn't stop proselytizing to her non-christian roomie? She also compared being called a name to physical acts of violence. Fucking idiot.
I, for one, don't think you have anything to worry about. Nobody is going to force you to give up your delusions, unless those delusion pose a threat to others. Provided you continue to patiently wait for the "Rapture", and don't try to interfere with the rights of others, no one will do anything to you whatsoever.
If, by persecution, you mean removing your "right" to persecute others, then, you should be "persecuted", by that definition of persecution.
Otherwise, look up the word persecution and try to absorb what it really means, such as beating a person to death because they are homosexual, or blowing up abortion clinics because you don't even understand your own bible, or shooting doctors who perform abortions, or screaming invectives at women in distress at abortion clinics, or picketing veteran's funerals, proclaiming "God hates fags".
Really, just shut the fuck up.
{...and it's starting somewhat now with "gay rights vs the church" issues.}
Just because we are giving someone else equal rights does not mean we are persecuting you.
[Recently, it was reported that Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama proclaimed that America was not a Christian nation.]
OMG!!! A POLITICIANACTUALLY READ AND UNDERSTOOD THE TREATY OF TRIOPOLY!!!
It's a miracle!
Anyway, he's right you know.
"About how Christians are about to face persecution and it's starting somewhat now with "gay rights vs the church" issues."
Oh, SHUT UP. Seriously. Do not even go there. When you comprise the vast majority of a country's religious affiliation, and have one of the two major political parties kissing your ass to get votes, you are not fucking being persecuted. Come back when you're getting kicked off your land, raped, tortured, or murdered at the hands of any American government and then we'll talk.
Ugh. Fundamentalist Christians are some of the biggest whiners ever, I swear.
