There are two types of people: Christians and Christians in denial. There simply are no other alternatives. Each of you knows, deep down, the truth, but for some reason are afraid to admit it. Why?

I could say the same thing about atheists.
(Do christians really not lie awake in bed at night, made all too aware of mortality, and wonder if, given how the facts are and the similarities to other myths, the obvious political use of the Old Testament God by the Jewish rulers and such, they might just be wrong?)
The dichotomy reveals itself to me, as free people with a healthy autonomous conscience, versus zombie scripture clowns.
Why do you continue to insist that your bogeyman book holds anything more than sparse crumbs of truth?
When I was young, we had to learn the programming language BASIC at school. This is how this would go.
10 If "Christian", then "Praise Jesus!"
20 Else, go to 10
Forgive me if it's syntactically inaccurate, but I think you get the idea.
cool cats, you stole the words from my mouth.
Why do you deny His Noodliness, Jason? Do you want to spend an afterlife devoid of beer volcanoes and stripper factories?
There are two types of people: atheists and atheists in denial. There simply are no other alternatives. Each of you knows, deep down, the truth, but for some reason are afraid to admit it. Why?
There. Fixed it. Still just as crazy, though, really.
Or, as the Bible puts it:
There are two types of people. People who believe that God loves all humanity and thinks of us as treasured children, and people he's going to brutally torture for all eternity.

So I guess all those tribespeople living deep in the Amazon rainforest wouldn't laugh in your face if you told them they secretly know the "truth" about a holy man who let himself be killed but is still worshipped(something they would find absurd and a sign of weakness, no doubt). I mean, come on now! Some cultures don't even have a well-developed sense of a god, so how could they possibly be Christians in denial?
Jason, did it ever occur to you that Christianity is not really an obvious belief? Messianic beliefs generally only appear in situations where the believers are a distinctly oppressed minority, and the fact that one colorful street preacher in Galilee happened to be a little more charismatic than every other dime-a-dozen Messiah in Roman Palestine is not enough to make him the Messiah that Christians want him to be. The Jews certainly don't agree with you, and they have a large body of work that explains why. And I can't speak for anyone else here, but I don't agree with you either, because the concept of a Messiah is actually rather nonsensical. (Total wishful thinking. Just ask the Ghost Dancers or the Cargo Cultists...)
*sigh*
Jason, no, that is not it ONCE AGAIN from a serious Christian. We believe that there is no God based on logic and reason, not the least of which are the contradictions and scientific errors found in the Bible itself. Bats are not birds, for example, though I suppose that if you wanted to you could make an argument that according to God they are and we just think that they are not because of our faulty human logic.
While it may make sense that there is a God to you, to many others it does not.
I myself am an agnostic. While I would like to believe that there is a loving God out there, all of the science and logic that I have been exposed to tell me that there is not. Of course, this does not disprove the notion that there is still a God, science has just not found Him yet.
Heh, it gets better. In response to "How to do you know that?" Jason replies:
"I know that because there are no other alternatives.
You don't have to be psychic to know that people are either male or female. It's just how the world works."
No other alternatives. *snrk*
I just wasted several minutes of my life reading that entire forum thread, and I must say: This Jason kid is one of the most idiotic fundies I ever saw quoted here. He just keeps repeating the same response, "It's the Truth." What a maroon!
That argument is as moronic as the one which stated that all babies are born believing in God.
If that were true, your fundie brainwashing techniques, such as Jesus Camp, would not be necessary.
Please forgive me, I have to! Jason are you sure they're all in denial, couldn't some of them be in the Amazon, the Rhine, or the Mississippi? Sorry!
Seriously. I already commented but this one bears a repeat.
It's almost as though his brain short-circuits when confronted with an ideology that differs from his:

"Is it because you don't understand the Bible?"

"DOES NOT COMPUTE. DISK DRIVE ERROR."
am i ever glad i had parents who let me make my own decisions...
on one hand, i feel sorry for people like jason. on the other, they make me feel queasy
I'm a christian in denial?
So wait. Deep down inside, I know without a shadow of doubt that a mangod was born to a virgin, was then executed according to the will of his fathergod in order to save me from my future and original sin, then physically resurrected on the third day?
How obvious! What a fool I've been. Thank you for pointing out the truth that I've been blocking out, too ashamed of my sinfullness to admit.
Hey, Jason? Quit assuming you know anything. Seriously.
There are several types of people.
Christians who believe one thing.
Christians who believe another.
Christians who believe yet another.
People of other religions, most of which can be broken down as above.
Atheists who can also be broken down as above
I'm certainly NOT a Christian in denial. I'm an atheist who denies the existence of any form of divinity.
No, apparently there are three types of people: Believers, Believers in denial, and Believers with MOTHERFUCKING MIND-READING POWERS, MOTHERFUCKER. 'Cause it's pretty clear you're in the last group if you deign to tell other people what THEY deep down truly beleive.
Gee. Who'd of thunk that a fundie would be be so rigid and close-minded and black and white and arrogant?
Oh, me and most sane people. That's right.
"There are two types of people: Muslims and Muslims in denial. There simply are no other alternatives. Each of you knows, deep down, the truth, but for some reason are afraid to admit it. Why? "
Fixed.
That statement is wrong! I do not believe in god and jesus - not even deep down inside!
I believe in karma, re-incanation, the wheel of the year (wheel of life) and and multiple (for a lack of a better word) gods and GODDESSES.
I don't deny there was a man called Jesus, maybe he even healed people and spread a message of love - but I don't believe he was the son of god. I also do not believe that said Jesus would agree with his angry funy followers! I actually think he must have been a pretty decend guy, whos message totally got perverted and twisted by fundies like you!
Jason, the reality is that most people, even in OT Israel, act like there is no God, even if they pay lip service to the concept. That is why the relatively few people totally invested in the magic kingdom have to constantly harangue the pew sitters to remember they are suppose to put God first, ahead of family, personal needs, friends, career, etc., which most people won't do because its hard to tithe to your imaginary friend when the kid needs braces and your mortgage is due. IOW, deep down, most people are atheists.
Man, do I wish we still gave awards, 'cause this one deserves "Fundamentalism In A Nutshell!"
Hey....can we have awards back again? I noticed that site traffic went WAY down when the awards went away.
There are over 1,000 kind of people: Christians who are Presbyterians, Christians who are Baptists, Christians who are Catholics, Christians who are Coptics, Christians who are Methodists, Christians who are Adventists, Christians who are Chaldeans, Christians who are Marionites, Christians who are Melchites, Christians who are Scandinavian Pietists, Christians who are Lutherans, Christians who are Plymouth Brethren, Christians who are Mennonites, etc., etc., etc., ...
The only thing I'm in denial is that Bush is antichrist. Wait, did I say something?
*washes mouth with detergent*
Now stay off this site, or be intelligent and use debate. Thats the only way we're convinced.
"The two type of people are atheists and atheists who have been brainwashed." -Zadic
"It is an interesting and demonstrable fact, that all (I'm not certain of the exact wording at this point) that all children are atheists."
My point is (Drumroll please...), Zadic's right, everyone's an atheist, or an atheist that has been brainwashed.
"Each of you knows, deep down, the truth . . . "
No, I don't KNOW at all. I BELIEVE there is no type of divinity watching over us and since there's no proff to the contrary, I'll stick to that belief.
No I am not a christian, nor am I a christian in denial. Many other people are not athiest, and they are not christians either- in denial or otherwise. I know the truth, you bet.Something tells me that taking my precious time to explain why would be as useful as telling it to the wall.
Jason, do me a favor. Get your face really close to the center of your bible and slam it shut.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
