"Atheists": Why can't you simply say you're "non-religious," or better yet, "non-Christian"?”
I’m non-Christain, non-Muslim, non-Shinto, non-Jewish, non-Hindu, non-Jedi, non-pagan, non-Satanist, non-pantheist, non-Other. Why the fuck would i NOT call myself Atheist?
“At least you then you can't say you're being labled, but rather just distinguishing yourself from the norm.”
I just said that the label describes me. And it distinguishes me from the ‘norm,’ although i suspect we’re a LOT more common than most people want to admit.
“Because Christians, Muslims, and Jews do have a specific belief system--you atheists claim that you do not.”
Christainity isn’t all that ‘specific.’ Catholic or Protestant? Orthodox or Hollywood? Evangelical or Cafeteria-style?
"Hence, why it's necessary for us to make these distinctions.”
That would be why i accept ‘atheist,’ too.
“Are you atheists now saying that you so have a specific belief system?”
Exactly the opposite. just that there is a word, which we’re not afraid of, which describes us.
“We don't call ourselves non-Jewish/Muslim because we're not subject to or dominated by them. You are subject to us.”
Um, so you think the Protestants are dominated by the Catholics? That’s exactly what you’re saying, here.
