They shook their fists at God and said, "We don't care what God says, we will issue our legal brief to support gay marriage in San Diego!" Then Mayor Jerry Sanders mocked the Christian vote and signed off on this rebellious legal document to support same-sex marriage.
And then the streets of La Jolla under the Mt. Soledad Cross began to cave in.
They shook their fists at God and said, "We don't care what the Bible says, We want the California school children indoctrinated into homosexuality!" And then Governor Schwarzenegger signed into law the heinous SB777 which bans the use of "mom" and "dad" in the text books and promotes homosexuality to all school children in California.
And then the wildfires of Southern California engulfed the land like a raging judgment against the radicalized anti-christian California rebels.

And Kent Hovind shook his fist at the IRS and said, "We don't care what the law says, we're gonna keep all the money while simultaneously claiming we are poor and deserve financial assistance!"
And God threw his sorry ass in jail, to the amusement of all.
"which bans the use of "mom" and "dad" in the text books"
I doubt this is true, but if it is then the politicians have overstepped common sense. It's all good and well to include homosexuality in the text books but when about 90% isn't homosexual you should be able to use "mom" and "dad" (or equivalent titles) in textbooks.
Your exaggerations have trned to lies. Using 'mom' and 'dad' isn't banned in textbooks; that'd be ridiculous. Homosexuality doesn't even remove such titles. At most it might require the use of 2 moms or 2 dads. All SB777 did was grant more rights to homosexual couples than were previously granted by the state. Even after that homosexual couples still have a LOT fewer rights than heterosexual couples, you ass.
NotMe, I seem to remember an article from a few years ago about Northern Irish schools trying to cut down on teachers' usage of words like 'mum' or 'dad'. It wasn't anything to do with homosexuality; it was taking into account the increasing numbers of children who aren't raised by their biological parents. Teachers are encouraged to use phrases like 'the adults you live with' instead. Maybe the reasoning in this case is the same?
I do agree that it's overzealous, though. The majority of children are still raised by their biological mum/mom and dad.
Plus, these are school-children . I doubt any of them have any idea what sexuality they're going to be yet.

The fires went around the homes of fundamentalist Christians? Katrina certainly didn't spare the fundies.
... promotes homosexuality to all school children in California.
Schools don't promote homosexuality. They promote tolerance toward homosexuals; you know, as in "thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself"
"They shook their fists at God and said, "We don't care what God says, we will issue our legal brief to support gay marriage in San Diego!"
Ehh, your'e not God James.
And an arsonist lit a fire in a place whose temperature rose, in the last week to 100ºF. You know, even God understands this simple fact of life, specially if a country has separation church-state(and that's the official reason, too, why Amsterdam is intact)
Just read SB777. The draft I read included the stricken parts too (i.e., the parts that were crossed out for the final draft), and nowhere was there any mention of banning "mom," "dad," or any specific words for that matter.
I tell ya, literacy has gotten me out of more misunderstandings...
This, of course, can only mean literacy is the tool of Satan. Oh well.
@Freboy
I don't even get this whole gay conspiracy thing... it's what makes the rest of the civilized world shade their heads at America.
Actually, we don't because of that - homophobia is found, right now, almost everywhere - the concept of respecting other sexual orientations is too new for it to have faded out of most countries.
What the rest of the world does shake their heads at about America is the whole creationist thing. There is an idea that was put to death 100 years ago and that somehow is still being taught in schools in the US.
I predict that, once gay marriage is part of everyday life (a generation from now), the next big fight will be over polymarriages. I likewise predict that all the arguments we see about gay marriage will resurface (I'll be amused by how they'll have to twist the Bible there). And by then, if the US is still being difficult about gay marriage, then the rest of the world will shake their colective heads about it.
In brief: it's not homophobia, or even the US, but the whole not changing with the times that makes us shake our heads (and if it helps, I shake my head at things in my own country, and those around mine too. It's just that the US makes the news and the Internet far more than all the others combined).
Hope that helps,
Grey Wolf
Freboy:
Actually, mostly it's just that America seems to breed some really, really loud believers. We don't really care much about the gay conspiracy, just that you seem to end up with all the people who have to YELL ABOUT IT IN GREAT LENGTH AND DETAIL. If the conspiracy theorists were a bit quieter over it, we probably wouldn't even notice.
They didn't care what God said, at least as outlined in the Bible, when they signed the treaty of Geneva, the constitution and separation Church-State, authorised the establishment ofoutlets which sell lycra and cotton shirts, abolished slavery, etc.................. And concerning the "Christian vote" in which sense is it more important than any other vote?, after all, it's not said that they voted for them.
I've said this before, and I'll say it again. As someone who lives in San Diego, fuck yourself with something sharp and jagged.
Long live this great city.
I love how people are being "rebellious" to other peoples' gods.
I guess it never dawned on them they are being rebellious to Baal, Zeus, Thor, Vishnu, and a variety of other gods.
Yet another example of gawd's piss-poor aim. One would think that if he were really so mad at the homosexuals and their supporters, he would have rained hell-fire down on that gay mecca, San Francisco, or maybe on Sacramento, where the governor lives and legislation gets signed into law.
But, noooo; the fires are consuming the part of the state that is actually home to more conservatives than locations further north.
Hey, come to think of it, maybe god IS trying to send a message!
There's nothing like a natural disaster to bring the fundies out en masse . Remember the dickwad who took the satellite photo of Katrina and said it was God's wrath about the number of abortions performed in N.O., and for proof said there was an image of a fetus in the storm? (No, there wasn't. It was an IR false-color image, common in remote sensing.) That twisted "logic" sounds remarkably like wat's going on here: God is angry about abortions, gays, women, etc. so this disaster that would have happened anyway is His doing, so smarten up y'all.
In the red states, they shook their fists at reason and said, "We'll teach creationism in public schools, spend our money on megachurches instead of something useful, and elect Bushbaby." And the hurricanes and tornadoes came.
As a Californian, I say to you, Mr. Hartline, as so many others have said before me: "Die in a fire!"
what an ambulance chaser.
Shame he doesn't stand on the streets of la Jolla and say that.
PS if SD passed the law why did la Jolla get it (as a Britisher I don't know the relationships)?
And yet San Francisco is left standing. Your point?
There are "sinners" everywhere, which is why it's so convenient to say that natural and not-so-natural disasters are God's way of correcting that. But in that case, another world-wide flood would be more efficacious. And yet.
And we're not sure what the Greek people, the Galician ones, the Indonesian, the Thai or the New Orleans inhabitants did, but surely God was very pissed off with them, following your logic.
If God really wants to kill off gays, why doesn't he give them massive malignant tumors with little gold tags embedded in them saying "Leviticus 20:13, bitch!" Hartline must think God is blind and stupid.
If that were even remotely true, then your god would be a HUGE ASSHOLE.. and for your part, in believing in and worshiping such a tyrannical sadist, YOU are an asshole as well.

"I don't even get this whole gay conspiracy thing... it's what makes the rest of the civilized world shade their heads at America."
No no no, the rest of the civilized world is shading their heads at us Americans because of (A) creationists, (B) our lack of the metric system, and (C) our current foreign policy, which seems singularly engineered to piss off the maximum number of countries.
Oh, and Professor M ?
WIN.
What about Sydney in Australia? Every year they hold the Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras where thousands of people dress up in leather and costumes and such, and ride on floats, down the main streets of Sydney and express the fact that they are gay, and proud of the fact. It's a nationally televised event. It is a family friendly parade [ie: no buttsex happening on the floats etc] and tens of thousands of people line the streets to watch. It's a hell of a spectacle.
Now why then has Sydney not had any major natural disasters for hundreds of years?
Tasteless, AND stupid. And lies. Though, even if SB777 contained such wording (it. does. not.), I woulds see nothing wrong with it in favour of 'guardians' or some such; it's completely neutral, both in manners of gender and blood relationship.
are gays really so bad? they're not hurting anybody, why can't you just leave them alone? I used to be extremely anti-gay too, until i simply thought about it. they harm nobody, they just love differently than most people. so what? does it effect you at all what people over in california do in their bed at night? NO!
I can't decide which is more disgusting: the idea that Gawd is such a petty, vindictive, inefficient bully, or that you want us all to worship this asshat.
Let's see... fires rampaging through the most conservative area of Cali... Katrina hitting New Orleans, but sparing the 'gay district'... tornadoes ripping through the Bible Belt every year...
You know, I'm starting to see a pattern. Maybe there IS a higher power out there, and it's fscking pissed at fundies.
And lo, Chevy created the EV1, and California was engulfed in flames.
Taking the message, Chevy promptly crushed all their EV1s.
And California was engulfed in flames.
again I ask: what is it with fundoes and homosexuality. It seems to be the touchstone of their existance: they would prefer to see thousands die (and they'd be gleeful about it) than allow 2 men or 2 women to have their relationship LEGALLY recognised - not by hte churches, just be the law. Please can anyone explain why?
Twisted fabricated quotes. People don't "shake their fist at God" because they understand that they are not living under a theocracy and that it would be a return to savagery if they did. "Don't care what God says" is equally misrepresentation, _you_ are the one deciding what God apparently says, by quote mining rare traditional scriptal verses, often out of context. The tradition of an ancient people. Not law. We can easily also quote mine quotes from the Bible about people like you who are trying to make God say what you want. But it's irrelevant, that too is just the same, quotes from tradition. Bullshit exposed.
Confused?
