NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 1ST SESSION OF THE 52ND OKLAHOMA LEGISLATURE:
THAT the Oklahoma House of Representative strongly opposes the invitation to speak on the campus of the University of Oklahoma to Richard Dawkins of Oxford University, whose published statements on the theory of evolution and opinion about those who do not believe in the theory are contrary and offensive to the views and opinions of most citizens of Oklahoma.
THAT the Oklahoma House of Representatives encourages the University of Oklahoma to engage in an open, dignified, and fair discussion of the Darwinian theory of evolution and all other scientific theories which is the approach that a public institution should be engaged in and which represents the desire and interest of the citizens of Oklahoma.

Now, therefore, let it be resolved:
THAT the Oklahoma House of Representatives is filled with spineless cretins who can't tell actual science from their grandmothers' assholes, and so violate both just to make sure; and
THAT the Oklahoma House of Representatives will wallow in ignorance until their imaginary sky fairy shows up again in short, forever and ever, amen.
[Around 1930, the State Assembly of Arkansas resolved in session to pray for HL Mencken's soul.] Don't worry Prof Dawkins, there's very little worthwhile in Oklahoma. The "majority" there are devolved knuckle-draggers.

That's ok. Most Oklahomans are contrary, and offensive to anyone with more than a 3rd grade education.

Hmmm. Like the Theory of Gravity, or Quantum Theory? If you're talking about "other scientific theories" explaining the diversity of life on Earth, there aren't any. You are superstitious, backward, knuckle-dragging, slack-jawed, inbred, gullible, morons.
[...are contrary and offensive to the views and opinions of most citizens of Oklahoma.]
That's because most of you are dumb, ignorant, or both.
I hate my state. :(
*sigh*
Oh man I wanted to move to the states, this is putting me off. I feel sorry for the poor buggers who use their brains over there. Please fight back. The states has so much good history, scientific or not, don't let these assholes ruin it for you.
The backward and cowering citizens of Oklahoma and their feeble minded House of Representatives are afraid of the truth. So woeful and are they and so lacking in intellectual vigour are they, that they take offense at the opinions and views of Richard Dawkins. They are so easily quelled and at the same time so quick to express outrage because of a man who is an excellent educator, speaker and writer and who doesn't suffer fools gladly.
The citizens of Oklahoma and their House of Representatives would fare better and surely be far better advised to face up the perceived challenge mounted by Dawkins and to offer a robust defence of their position. But no, they would prefer to censure Dawkins like the paltry and cowardly imbeciles that they are and prevent his speaking at a major educational establishment in the state.
Well, whether or not Oklahoma wishes to remain a bastion of ignorance and superstition will make not one iota of difference to the the truth.

I'm glad the legislature has time to do things like this *rolleyes*. Wake up Thomsen. Your idea of a fair discussion is ludicrous, because there's nothing to discuss. Why do you have to try to limit the views presented to your university students anyway? Aren't they big enough kids now to decide what they agree with or not for themselves?
So "open, dignified, and fair discussion" means not letting those who disagree with you to speak?
Did the American English got caught up in a tornado or something?

Okay, name some alternative scientific theories that can be compared and contrasted with evolution. Difficulty: Creationism and intelligent design do not count as scientific theories.
Okay, I have a bit of a problem here, I don't actually like Dawkins.
Reasons:
1. He's well established in the scientific community, yet most of his hypotheses have remained untested.
2. The extent of scientific method he goes to is equivalent to that of psychologists explaining psychology - not much.
3. His personality would be equivalent to a net junkie if there was Internet in the 50's, he's a shy person but then lashed out in his books.
4. I found The God Delusion in the science section at my university book store, I'd be fine with his other books, but both me and my atheist friend (I being deist) believed it was the worst of his work and really attributed nothing to science considering science doesn't deal with belief in God.
Open, dignified, and fair discussion? Pffft, there's only one way to settle this: CAGE MATCH: RICHARD DAWKINS VS. MOST CITIZENS OF OKLAHOMA. And maybe some tigers.
"and all other scientific theories which is the approach that a public institution should be engaged in and which represents the desire and interest of the citizens of Oklahoma."
So you want to have a discussion about "scientific" theories, but you also want the discussion to reflect the desire and interest of the majority of your fundie population? You can't have it both ways. You either accept the scientific standpoint or go somewhere and pray. No one cares either way, so cut the bullshit.

I was having a bad... decade. There are some decent places in the US. You just need to stick to the west coast and pretty much anything north of Virginia on the east coast. Speaking as a midwesterner I can safely say the midwest sucks Shiva's balls. Be wary of any town that boasts more sheep than people. As for Canada, you'd best ask a Canadian. I tend to romantize the place as America's free spirited, hippie cousin. They have gay marriage. The fundies are few and far between. They rank higher than we do on education. Universal health care with the option to self pay if you'd prefer to see a Yank doctor. And they're kick-ass neighbors. We share the longest unguarded border in the world. See what I mean about that romanticizing?

Why? Because you know that Richard Dawkins could intellectually pound into the dirt any 'argument' for Creationism (as if Kitzmiller vs Dover wasn't the final nail in the coffin of 'I.D.', and therefore Creationism)?
Or because you've seen his documentary "The Root Of All Evil?", in which he verbally annihilated Ted Faggard.
"THAT the Oklahoma House of Representatives encourages the University of Oklahoma to engage in an open, dignified, and fair discussion of the Darwinian theory of evolution and all other scientific theories which is the approach that a public institution should be engaged in and which represents the desire and interest of the citizens of Oklahoma."
No need. The debate has been over since 2005. Four Words: Kitzmiller versus Dover, bitches.
Ah, but such a discussion IS taking place. It is taking place in the scientific literature. The fact that creationists and their pretty cousins in the ID movement have repeatedly demonstrated that they have nothing to contribute to the aforementioned discussion is their fault, not the fault of science.
THAT the Oklahoma House of Representatives are stupid, ignorant fundies, who don't want their feeble world-views questioned.
Every sane academic institution encourages open and fair discussions on practically everything. The only requisition is that you bring open and fair arguments.
Already debunked idiocies need not make the trouble.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
