This would lead to a deceptive creator who made the world in one way to then lie about how it's made to confuse humans and punish them for discovering the actual makeup? We didn't invent evolution, but we develop working explanations for what we found.

It can be intimidating and desorienting at first to realize that things that we have been dearly clinging to may be false or void. Some call it a crisis of conscience. On the other hand, curious and open minds keep learning and adapting. It is like a type of mourning, life must go on and it will lead to good things again. In the case of people leaving cults, normally it leads to better things, despite all the fear mongering and straw men one was brainwashed with. Time to discover that the straw men were lies like the rest of the doctrine to capture and control you. Time for freedom.
It's not because you discover that your mental model of the world is false that the world will crumble and that you will dissolve. The model can crumble and actual learning can produce better models. In science, hypotheses and models are reworked as observations and evidence improves the understanding. It requires honesty and humility but people can learn.
