Anyway, a rational, sane person acting without slavish obedience to god is not automatically a slave to their desires (I've been accused of this in the past, and deeply offended by it) - he experiences drives and desires, sensibly compares and estimates the potential outcomes, and then decides whether or not to take action to satisfy them.
Even in the case of people who are slaves to their impulses, addicts, criminals, psychopaths and the like, rligions love to tell themselves, and anyone else who'll listen, that they're freeing such people when they draw them in and induce them to follow social conventions and exercise moderation or abstinence. All they're really doing is moving them from one mental prison to another. This is precisely the sort of dehumanisation, masquerading as a moral service to humanity, that Burgess was warning against in A Clockwork Orange.

That's the problem with the term "kuffar" (plural for "kafir", arabic for infidel, so yes the "s" at the end was redundant) is that it applies to you too, according to the other 70+ sects of islam that you don't belong to. Your belief considers reality to be trivial and the pursuit of it, evil, and encourages escape from it rather then having the moral strength to stand up and face it head on. As a result you (muslims) who once ruled nearly half the planet are now reduced to being the global laughing stock. Such shame.

It may sound a bit anal-retentive but the underlined prayer is reserved for their prophet (because a creature could not technically pray peace upon it's own creator). I personally have no problems with the error, but in a debate against a rabid muslim fundie such a mistake could considerably weaken your argument. Muslims take scriptural inaccuracy far more seriously then most other theists.
Xotan: No worries mate, fundies have it easy because they don't even have to bother learning their own religion, 'cause it's just easier to join the herd. People like us here (atheists) on the other hand who don't follow any particular faith, ironically have to learn pointless details about all the more popular ones just to be able to defend our right to exist. Sad state really. Just imagine what one could do with all this memory, maybe learn another language, a musical instrument, or a new skill.

On a different note, I don't see why more fundamentalists tie bonds across religions. After all, they have so much in common.

Was that a hamzat-al-qaT I used? My bad! Too many qaTting remarks of late, I'm afraid. Besides, my Arabic has got quite rusty and Egyptian. And an English keyboard is far from satisfactory to render a half-decent transliteration.
