Hasn't there been enough demonization of gamers by now? Just about every crime a teenager commits is blamed on games.
Let's focus a bit on positive things gamers have done over the years, like the Humble Bundle, AGDQ and the upcoming SGDQ (https://gamesdonequick.com for more info)

The primary factor was his racism, as he has fucking said.
Kinda like how Adam Lanza was apparently hardcore gamer, but his favourite games were Nintendo games and World of Warcraft, not really the alleged murder simulators. But that didn't stop people from writing articles saying that Dynasty Warriors caused Sandy Hook.
Because there is a much better case that the murders were linked to his radical conservatism and racism.

As an avid gamer who would play more were it not for a chronic lack of time, I say that Jack Thompson and his ilk have gone way too far. Video games and their players have been demonised by the media, but they have also been trivialised by the same, and I think that is a significant part of it.
I kno this is a bit of a powder keg, but I vehemently oppose GG. Not only does it contribute to the delegitimisation of gamers as people but it also, even more seriously, damages enterprising developers through relentless harassment. It's like the Confederate flag in South Carolina, almost.

I'm pretty sure it is recognised that a significant proportion of #NotYourShield is fake accounts made for that purpose. A lot of them are made very shortly before waxing on Gormergloot, and they tend to use stock photos of minorities as profile pics. It's ironic because they're using them as shields.
As for Deepfreeze? I'm not familiar with it. It seems that it is a site intended to track journalistic corruption. That's good. But it also appears to be rather shifty and biased when it comes to corruption allegations.
Would that be because most people that are under 40 grew up either around video games or playing them themselves?
I spent most of last night on Borderlands 2 with my beloved Psycho Piros. I have yet go go on a rampage with a motorized saw on a stick. Other choices lately have been Eternal Sonata (which, I admit, has led to me... listening to more Frederic Chopin pieces), Arkham City (where I adore the predator bits, but have yet to go around terrorizing people from the shadows or remote detonating mines near people).

Roof killed nine people. Not marijuana, not video games, not other drugs, not even the gun he was holding was the one who made the conscious decision to kill nine innocent people.
Dylann Roof made that decision. HE is to blame for his heinous crime. So stop piddling about and trying to claim this or that is responsible and PUNISH THE LITTLE BASTARD WHO'S ACTUALLY RESPONSIBLE.

How is that a bad thing? Since at least Doom people have been wrongfully pointing fingers at video games and the people who create or play them over every atrocity of this nature, simply because it's far easier to find a scapegoat that can't defend itself than to actually find out why someone would go crazy and murder other people and do something to make sure that doesn't happen again. If the guy is an out-and-out, violent racist looking for any excuse to murder black people, I consider it a small victory to keep the blame on his bigotry where it belongs, rather than trying to pass it off on "brainwashing" from playing video games or being within a hundred meters of a firearm, like we've been doing for every other spree shooter for years.

If he acted out a scene in a videogame, quoted a videogame, or if any of his writings pointed to videogames even being an influence to his crime then Andy, you would have a point. Right now, videogames are just something he likes, nothing more.

I'm feeling generous, so I'm going to give you 3 rebuttles to your arguement:
1. 100% of murderers breath oxygen. 100% of murderers eat food. 100% of murderers have parents. Doesn't mean we blame them, because 100% of everyone else has these traits too.
2. I play a lot of videogames. I played TF2, but it doesn't mean I'm going to contruct a flamethrower and go to town. I played Town of Salem, but it doesn't mean I'm going to become an arsonist or a serial killer. I played Evolve but it doesn't mean I'm going to get a missile launcher and go to town on the local forest.
3. He said he was racist. His crime was motivated by race, by his own admission. Why does the media need to speculate when the murderer has given the reason already?
I've played every id Software game - id Tech 1 - 5-based - from "Castle Wolfenstein" to "Rage", and I don't have a criminal record for so much as spitting on the pavement.
