The left is hypocritical? Not at all like the conservative right, who claim to "hate the sin but not the sinner" but then seek to deny rights to the "sinners," preach about family values while having affairs and multiple consecutive marriages, claim to be in favor of freedom of religion but want to promote only Christianity and restrict all other religions, claim to want to save babies but then advocate cutting all aid to them once they're born, they claim to support the troops but then want to send them off to unnecessary wars and kick them out of the military if they happen to be gay, preach about the evils of homosexuality while getting caught with gay lovers, and claim to put women on a pedestal while seeking to send them back into the kitchen.

There is one small, yet utterly important tidbit the OP has ignored: in each case of "unfairness" he describes, he has neglected to mention that the side "discriminated" against is or was deliberately attempting to DENY rights to citizens while the other side is or was trying to SECURE those Rights.

This is just another example of the old right wing / fundie bullshit that seeks to claim that denying them the right to persecute others is persecuting them. That denying them the right to restrict the free speech of others is restricting their free speech. That securing the rights of others unfairly diminishes their own.

Remember, kids! You are not being persecuted when you are told you can't persecute others.

The majority should not be allowed to dictate the rights of the minority. When a group in a position of power attacks a group with much less power, of course this is concerning.

There is no reason whatsoever for the Boy Scouts to be considered a "straight organization", it's not like they're a matchmaking club or something. And they changed their rule entirely of their own volition.

It's not that Republicans are "reflexively ostracized", the blame is on each individual politician for the hateful/insane things that he or she says. If a Democrat were to stand up and deny the seriousness of rape or proclaim that people are harming our country by being gay or being poor, I assure you that they would be ostracized just as quickly as a Republican who said the same thing.

I can't speak to the Scouts' status as private or public, so I will abstain to comment on correct or not, however, if you deny someone entry due to their sexual orientation, you are, in fact, being homophobic. Deal with it.

Well, if the Republicans would keep their collective feet out of their mouths for a while, and stop trying to push the Grand Theocratic States of America, maybe, MAYBE people would start looking at them as something other than a really bad joke.

What these people can't seem to understand is that the change to allow gay scouts into the organization was started, encouraged and approved from within the BSA. While outside pressures may have influenced the decision, it was not people from outside the BSA that pushed for the change.

Even homphobes have a constitutional right to assemble. Nobody is trying to take that right away from anyone. One look at the Westboro Baptist Church is evidence enough of that fact.

Muslims and Christians both have the same first amendment right to practice their religions, after all, they both worship the same god, the god of Abraham. However, when they make their views public, I also have the first amendment right to mock them and their god.

The Congressional Black Caucus has existed since 1969. The Congressional White Caucus existed since Congress was founded and was gradually weeded out by civil rights legislation.

The BSA is a private organization. The First Amendment gives no more gives you the right to exclude gays from the BSA than it gives me the right to speak at the Annual Meeting of the Southern Baptist Convention.

The local paper is run by Gannett and I read the WSJ from time to time. Show me where they lionize the Democrats and how they ostracize the Republicans.
