Up and until 1960, Islam was not a word understood by average Americans. We had American oil and the Muslim Islamic people were not even considered by the citizens of the USA. We knew nothing about them. Today, we know Islamic Muslims are a problem. They can divide our nation. Divided nations always fall. We understand that Christian Muslims are here because they are killed in their nations for converting from Islam to Christianity. We welcome these people. Some can be here for political asylum and we treasure every human life and they are welcome.

Riiiight. Of course you welcome and accept them. But the instant they say anything about them being Muslim you call up the FBI and have them thrown in Guntanamo Bay.
WTF is a Christian Muslim? Islam isn't an ethnic group, you know.
@approximate: What in the name of Christ is THAT shit??!! I need a second shower after looking at that monstrosity. Is that someone's idea of "art"?
Oh for...up until 9/11, Islam was a word most didn't know, or at least didn't care about. It wasn't until Bin Laden bombed the WTC that anyone ever talked about Muslims. That said, I live in the Godless Canada, so perhaps I'm a touch behind on who the world should hate, too.
OK, I think it's obvious that he's TRYING to say that he likes the idea of welcoming persecuted Asian and Middle East people if they are persecuted Christians, he doesn't comment about persecuted Muslims (who knows if they exist in his world). He's right about the fact that some countries in the world are not safe to "convert" in.
The bit about treasuring every human life is all very well, until you consider that these people often consider 'infidels' to be less than human. So j is really saying she treasures people that make the mark, in her opinion. Well, so do we all. It's difficult to get beyond that point, for anyone.
Could she, perchance, mean "Christian Arabs" or "Middle Eastern Christians"? Someone needs to tell her there's an important difference, quickstyle. Right after they point out that "treasur[ing] every human life" means Muslims, too.
@ Approximate: Wow, I'm gonna have nightmares about that.
"We had American oil and the Muslim Islamic people were not even considered by the citizens of the USA."
Wrong. The USA has been dependant on other nations, particularly Middle East Asia, for oil and other natural resources for centuries. Between 1898-1913, the USA invaded over a dozen nations almost 40 times.

Middle-eastern terrorists were well-known to the public long before 11-Sept-2001. The Munich Olympics and the 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center were Big News, and the fact that the perpetrators were from places with Arabic names hardly went unnoticed.
The only difference was, before 11-Sept-2001 we tended to think of them as "Arab terrorists." Their religious affiliation didn't come up in the news as an issue.
@approximate: Wow, I thought the whole clown thing was disturbing until I saw that.
It's funny because this reminds me of a conversation I had with a semi-fundie about Obama. She said I think he is 75% Muslim, and I had to remind her that Muslim is not an ethic group, it's a religion and a choice and that you cannot be 75% Muslim.
Go Obama 2008!
Sorry, folks...I guess I went a bit overboard in trying to express my incredulity at this post.
Hope nobody has nightmares tonight.
"Islam was not a word understood by average Americans"
Yeah. You got that fucking right.

I'm as hyper-anti-capital punishment as the next left-winger (just ask the Birmingham Six), but there are times when I think that ignorance and stupidity - and this quote by jeanilliterate here is a prime example - should not only be illegal, but should warrant no less than the death penalty. Being forced to learn about the wider world* out there would be a better alternative, even you fundies & morons out there would realise that. At least 'hoemskuling' by fundies should be illegal. There's a reason why education is compulsory ; also why here in the UK, we have the National Curriculum - which applies especially to private home tutors & homeschooling parents; not even they are excluded from the law.

The film "Idiocracy" is looking more and more a documentary with subsequent viewings.
Learning. It won't kill you. Only your religion.

Confused?
