It won't do any good. All of us know the little racist liberal quasi-Mexican Attorney General will ignore Rep. Jones' request for an investigation.
All the smug Nifong has to do is put a racially biased (OJ-type) jury together, which will be easy to do in predominantly black Durham, and he will convict those "privileged white boys." That's all he's waiting for.

Seems like it is about a rape case (3 members of the Duke University lacrosse team accused of raping a black stripper), and allegations that the DA in charge, Mike Nifong , mishandled the case.
Well, uh, speaking as someone who's followed this? This case stinks. This case stinks as bad as the one (with the black defendant!) that prompted North Carolina's full-evidence-disclosure laws in the first place. Except maybe it's worse, because there's no evidence outside of the story of someone who mixed alcohol with prescription muscle relaxants and was barely conscious the whole night, and who confidently placed at the party someone who was demonstrably several miles away. (No, not the guy who got captured by an ATM camera. A different guy entirely.)
The case started out as being a real poster child for undercutting white male privilege, and a lot of local activists got very involved in promoting what they thought was an ironclad arrest, but Every. Single. Piece. of evidence has demonstrated that nothing happened.
So, now it's a poster child for corrupt prosecution. And it's smoking a lot of nasty race-relations out of the woodwork on both sides.
I guess the sad part is that there are probably thousands of people who've been similarly railroaded in the past but since they didn't have the money to put up a defense they're serving time. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette did a giant expose on this in like the early 80s, which included some business owners who were arrested for selling property to drug dealers (except the only time they did it was to agents running a sting) and some fundie daycare workers who fed children to sharks, except there were no sharks and no missing children.
That doesn't mean that somebody who has the means to disprove the charges against them should just roll over and take it. There are definitely people in Durham who want to convict the Duke Three anyway, as justice for past injustices (aw, Bullwinkle, that trick NEVER works), and Duke faculty who have gone on record as saying that the sheer nerve of the defense in actually having exculpatory evidence has set race relations back 20 years.
I'm hoping this case does a lot to raise awareness of this kind of thing, get the moneygrubbing politico out of the DA's office, and get people to contribute to nonprofit organizations for defending the wrongly accused. And while I'm dreaming, I'd like a pony.

Glazius: Wait, you mean a FreeCon is actually (kinda) on the right track? Well, shit, RaptureReady's index just skyrocketed.
If it makes you feel better, stopped clock blah blah twice a day blah blah.
It's interesting watching people try to justify their initial impressions of the case - I mean, when it first broke, who did people tend to believe, the poor black single mother or the rich white lacrosse players?
Just because you want to believe in something doesn't make it true. This holds true no matter what you believe.

Well, Nifong is not "quasi-Mexican," he did not manage to put together a racially biased jury, and he failed to convict anybody. You're batting 0 for 3.
Confused?
