My husband and I refused to attend his brother's wedding, where he had divorced his first wife, divorced his second, and married another. We could not witness a person making a mockery of the most intimate of human relationships. We loved his brother dearly, but his frivolity concerning marriage was not something we could sanction, or allow our three young daughters to be influenced by.

WTF? He just has shitty taste in women, that’s all.
Not fundie to me, not even a religious argument. Maybe the brother's been an ass and not taken his commitments seriously, and they don't want their kids to think they support it. At least they're applying some standards to heterosexual marriage, instead of pointing the finger at gays.

...but what are your thoughts on Newt Gingrich? [/Doug Piranha-levels of sarcasm]

Hardly surprising. Just the usual story:
Mr X is married to Ms A.
Mr X is having an affair with Ms B, planning to divorce Ms A and marry Ms B. Ms A knows about Ms B.
Meanwhile, Mr X has lined up Ms C to be his mistress after his marriage to Ms B. Of course, he is already sleeping with Ms C. His wife, Ms A, knows about Ms B, but neither his wife, Ms A, nor his fiancee, Ms B, knows about Ms C, yet. They will.
Furthermore, Mr X is already on the lookout for Ms D, and keeping an eye peeled for Ms E.

The "but" says it all, doesn't it?
Honestly, it's kinda nice having fundies question the morality of marriage in a heterosexual relationship if it involves remarrying. I don't think they're right, but the fact that fundies are starting to not just automatically assume hetero = good, homo = bad for marriage is a good sign overall.

No, no, you should have gone. You should be THANKING him. Youknow they keep saying 50% of all marriages end in divorce, right?
Between your marriage and his three marriages, there’s two divorces. Fifty percent, right there. That protects your relationship! Statistically you will HAVE to stay married to make par.
Thank him for taking those bullets for you!
Of course, beyond a shallow examination of the maths, most people realize that each marriage is unique. The BIL’s relationships have absolutely nothing to do with yours, and your success or failure.
Maybe say that again. The BIL’s relationships have absolutely nothing to do with you.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
