Father Gabriele Amorth, who is Pope Benedict XVI's "caster out of demons," told Vatican Radio: "Behind Harry Potter hides the signature of the king of the darkness, the devil."

What an embarrassment to humanity that grown men, the leaders of a sect of about a billion, propound belief in demons and can "see" the hand of the devil in a series of books of harmless fiction.
Curious that they don't see the signature of the devil in their own bible. Many more cruelties and more misinformation in the bible than in all the Harry Potter books combined.
All right, I confess, I did once write a story about an author not unlike JKR selling her soul to the devil in return for mind-buggeringly large quantities of fame and fortune, but it was just a story, honest ... and if I knew the Vatican read my stuff I'd charge more for it.
Well, just consider what kind of morality those Harry Potter books are endorsing -- shocking things like perseverance in the fight of good against evil and loyalty to friends, etc. Yep, pretty evil, all right.
The church is just protecting its copyright on magic and fantasy and doesn't want it usurped by an upstart little kid like Potter. They have a guy that can walk on water, turn water in to wine and cast out demons.. and they had it first! ...and if you don't believe in that magic, there will be Hell to pay!
Bear in mind that newsmax is not precisely a good news agency. Many Vatican officials like Harry Potter and,if it were true, more mediums would have announced that, not a stupid webpage like this.
Did Amorth really say that, or did newsmax make this up?
I don't know, but I'd think that the Vatican wouldn't appoint total nutbars to the staff iof the Pope himself, or at least only nutbars who are media-savy enough to maintain an appearance of sanity in public...
EDIT: on the other hand, Amorth's Wikipedia entry and its links seem to confirm that he is genuinely guanophrenic: see for example his claim in his autobiography that he has "personally carried out over 30,000 exorcisms". Considering that he became an exorcist in 1986 and that his autobiography was published in 1999 (and a second book in 2002), that would be an average of about 5-6 exorcisms/day....
And here I thought the Fundies had forgotten about the teenage, British wizard.
...I wonder if I could convince J.K. Rowling to start signing books as "The Devil...."
After careful consideration, I think you may be correct.
Heaven forbid my children fall to the dark side after reading such subversive satanic texts as Harry Potter.
From now on I'm giving them the good book filled with nearly 1 million murders in the name of god, public executions, refrences to sex, people killing their own families, graphical depictions of barbaric crucifictions and a proud history of genocide against any culture not accepting your word of true love and peace.
Amen brother!
Its a freaking childrens story. Are Christian children not allowed to have a love of fantasy novels? What should really be important is that these books got children to READ something that was neglected. Many books are getting popularized I know, but this was one of the main ones. Children grew up with this stuff. In fact, I don't see anything at all in there about worshipping ANYTHING so there should be no problem.
'Okay, you're listening to the late lounge on W.T.F. Vatican 101, my guest tonight has been Father Gabriele Amorth, thank you Father. Do you have any requests ??'
'Uuhh yes, Could I just get a ten year old boy real quick ??'
This is unusual. Vatican Radio is on shortwave, and is much less fundie (except for being pro-life) than many of the American stations committed to fire-and-brimstone, end-times, and various and sundry conspiracy theories (help, help, we're being oppressed!). A message like this will make Catholics drift away, rather than bring them in.
I'm confused, I thought the Pope was the Anti-Christ? Bro. Randy, can you straighten this whole mess out?
Oh, that's right - EVERYTHING is the devil.

"Behind Harry Potter hides the signature of the king of the darkness, the devil."
And here was me assuming he had a regular round anus like the rest of us...
Harry can handle it,One of the first spell they teach at Hogsworth is protection against a priest standing behind you. It's a simple variation to deal with the devil, especially since he doesn't exist
@SteelAngelKitten: Oh, no, Tom Riddle is the devil, Ginny is Eve, and Harry is Adam, because he came a little too late after they'd had their interaction (but not too late).
You know whenever religious people rant against Harry Potter they seem like total and utter buffoons to me.
How in blazes is Harry Potter at all a threat to their wacky beliefs?
Whats next a war against Star Wars?
@ the ADDRESS THE POINTS person.
I really, truly hope you're just one of those Internet trolls who could never actually get people to genuinely like them and so purposefully tries to annoy people in order to convince themselves they're in control of people's dislike of them.
If you're actually a Christian you need to realise that posting this same huge block of text on dozens of very old posts is doing nothing other than irritating people, turning them away from Christianity and ultimately sending them to a place of eternal torture. You're actually harming your own cause and because of this may ultimately find yourself elbow to firey elbow with the people you're trying to preach at.
Have a little sense and realise that nobody's going to see you bumping dozens of old threads with the exact same impersonal block of text bullshit and think, 'Heeeey, I think I wanna hear what this guy has to tell me'.
If you really want to preach to people head on over to the forums and engage people person to person rather than simply being a harmful annoyance.
Having read the series then this quote, the devil is a good guy according to him. Teaching love, friendshhip, loyalty, etc
Confused?
