Not necessarily. Plus, we recognise that the state should have some power, at least to protect our civil liberties--like marrying those people we love, for instance.
A libertarian would be an idiot to support equal rights and greater overall freedom? Are you sure you understand the concept of libertarianism? Or the meaning of the word "idiot", for that matter? Because in the case of the latter, at least, I happen to have a helpful example handy at the moment...
What makes you think that gay marriages will be any worse than heterosexual marriages? You might be able to make an argument if it weren't for the 50% divorce rate. And just like failed heterosexual marriages, the children of divorced gay parents will likely either go to one parent or split time between both.
But I'm willing to bet that any gay couple willing to go through the legal hassle and expense of adopting a child will likely care for that child very much.
So if two dudes get married, they magically produce children?
I thought the argument against gay marriage was that they couldn't make the babies.
A true libertarian wouldn't try to force marriage one way or the other. They are for small government and any sort of marriage law like say making it so only straight people can marry would be something a libertarian would be against.
So a Libertarian would support "Free market" marriage as everything better when regulated by the free market.

Failing to understand the concept of libertarianism is a common trait of right-libertarians. They fail to understand that anarchism, and libertarianism are historically interchangeable terms, pro-socialist, and inherently anti-capitalist, anti-religion, and anti-state. Libertarians reject, and oppose all forms of authoritarianism, rather than just some, in order to strengthen another. Actual research says exactly the opposite. The vast majority of research conducted (of which there is quite a lot by now), all of the methodologically sound research and every psychological organization in the developed world; all of it, says that kids raised by same-sex parents turn out every bit as good as kids raised by opposite sex parents.
