......my pastor says we should be suspicious of "learning". It is not be our place to try to comprehend all the mysteries of how our Heavenly Father operates. We should know our limitations and remember it is Satan who lies to us, telling us that we have no limitations and can understand everything. That is the road to darkness.
Remember the words of the Preacher:
"For in much wisdom is much grief: and he that increaseth knowledge increaseth sorrow."
Ecclesiastes 1:18
God bless,
Fred

Recognizing human inability to understand everything does not make a virtue of refusing to learn anything. We've only gotten so far as we have by pushing those limits though the church has resisted that every step of the way, starting with basic literacy and hygiene. That is the road to remaining in darkness.
"... it is Satan who lies to us..."
Wrong. In the Garden of Eden myth, the serpent (supposedly Satan) told Adam and Eve the truth about the fruit, whereas your god lied. Actually, your god lied many times in your Bible; the incident in the Garden was just one of many such lies. Why do you want to worship a lying, conniving bastard like that?
Is it just me, or do these people seem to have a Biblical quote for EVERY occasion?
I reckon they're making it up half the time, I mean nobody's going to check...
"We should know our limitations....."
And how do we know what those limitations are, Fred? Who tells us what they are? Your parents? Your preacher? Your church elders? Who? Tell me.
So lets just say...
IGNORANCE IS BLISS
@Lucilius

The term you're looking for is "Dragged, kicking and screaming" I believe.
[EDIT] And in looking up the quote, in the context that it's said isn't, as most here would assume, "Stay stoopid for Jeebus." Rather it's that knowledge comes at a price. That casting off ignorance does open you to some harsh realities.
Proverbs 1:8-28...
"A Warning Against Rejecting Wisdom
Wisdom calls aloud in the street, she raises her voice in the public squares; at the head of the noisy streets she cries out, in the gateways of the city she makes her speech:
"How long will you simpletons love your simple ways? How long will mockers delight in mockery and fools hate knowledge? If you had responded to my rebuke, I would have poured out my heart to you and made my thoughts known to you. But since you rejected me when I called and no one gave heed when I stretched out my hand, since you ignored all my advice and would not accept my rebuke, I in turn will laugh at your disaster; I will mock when calamity overtakes you - when calamity overtakes you like a storm, when disaster sweeps over you like a whirlwind, when distress and trouble overwhelm you.
Then they will call to me but I will not answer; they will look for me but will not find me."
Not that the bible contradicts itself or anything.

Hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil. Fundamentalist in a nutshell.
This guy is getting monotonous already. Like horror fiction authors who always have characters who sing in an unusually nice tenor voice, or something, the style gets recognizable. And this fundy doesn't have what it takes to join the ranks of the illustrious, IMO.
Normally I just laugh at the crazyness of fundie posts, but this one actually makes me angry. "suspicious of learning"! I have no idea how anyone can think they gain inspiration and enlightenment from such a negative worldview. "Humans are so limited and pathetic that we can't possibly understand the universe, so we should just give up before we get too confused!" And they say the atheist position is bleak!
That comment from your pastor should be enough to tip you off to the fact he's full of bullshit.
You know for a fact that the world is happier what with people having pain-killers, antibiotics, eyeglasses, germ theory of disease, food refrigieration, scientific farming, hearing aids and dentistry.
These are only a few of the increases of hapiness brought about by increased knowledge.

EDIT: Oops- sorry re double post!
P.S. As to the 'road to darkness'- have you heard of the electric light?
He omitted the follow-up quote from the very next chapter:
Ecclesiastes 2:13 Then I saw that wisdom excelleth folly, as far as light excelleth darkness.
Checkmate.
Jezebel's Evil Sister: Unfortunately, shortly afterwards, Qohelet declares seeking after vanity as fruitless anyway, as the wise and the fool both meet the same end.
Essentially, Ecclesiastes despairs of any worth in the physical world. Apparently, Qohelet's conclusion is that only maintaining God's ideals is worthwhile, because God and the heavens are ABOVE the sun, outside the world of worthlessness.
@Starscream: A quick google will show you that he was actually right with his quote, seeing as he's not allowed to learn anything else, it's not suprising that he has learned most of the Bible off by heart.
Christians have a tendency to quote the one verse that suits thier agenda, then ignore the other 200 that say the opposite.
@SurfinSeaOtter, more like twin cheeks round an asshole than cousins.
Lurnin' is hard werk.
Fucking idiots.
Confused?
