Younger people tend to be less locked into thought patterns and more willing to objectively asses things that disagree with their worldview.

Drugs, such as Cannibis, Psilocybin and Peyote among others, have been used by humans since before recorded history. Drugs were originally used for religious experiences so if you're going to blame drugs on anyone you can point the finger at your camp.
I think it's rather obvious that violence and murder have been a religious mainstay for quite some time. Read your Bible. It's full of just that type of activity.

Too tolerant? You're some of the least tolerant people I've met. In my experience, the more religious you are the less tolerant you become if you happen to believe an Abrahamic religion.
