Thank you for this blessed ministry. I am a first grade public elementary school teacher, and I am so thankful I know how to give an answer now when my kiddos ask. I’ve also been able to filter through all of my books to ensure that there is no reference anywhere in my classroom to anything being millions of years old or evolving.

First grade is not the time to introduce those scientific concepts. Kids that age aren't ready to understand them yet.
Note that said inability to absorb the concepts doesn't stop fundies from teaching their strawman distortions of evolution to pre-schoolers.
I am a first grade public elementary school teacher, and I am so thankful I know how to make sure my kiddos are all forced to be good little fundie Baptists like me, regardless of what their godless heathen (e.g., Catholic, Jewish, etc.) parents want them to believe.
HAHAHA, looks like kent is gonna be doing bible codes soon... just gets dumber and dumber and dumber and dumber...
not to mention hes finally gone crazy in there...thinking god is speaking to him. out of prison in 2015 and straight to the mental institution..
Can we find out was school she teaches at and inform the administration?
And I see education was wasted on her husband as well.
"My husband is in his 3rd year going for his PhD in molecular biology at a public university, and he knows all too well the indoctrination of the evolution religion to the youth that is occurring in all public universities. In fact, he gave a small creation seminar to our churcha independent, fundamental, Bible-believing church"
... while I'd love to bash the "thank you for not having to make us think and ask questions" fundie, I have to point at the first commenter actually and say "Wrong".
At 5-6, myself, as well as several kids in the family, were quite possibly at our MOST curious. We understood concepts such as fission and fusion (if not the maths), *basic* astronomy, and geology.
Matter of fact I had a rock collection for a long time; partly because as a child the fact that some of these might be BILLIONS (granted I thought my parents were bloody ancient too, so those rocks were either really impressive or what old people eventually turned into, which was a pretty comforting thought actually) of years old? that was pure awesomeness.
So, you're goal is to continue to get a check from the evil public schools, but to do your best to circumvent actually teaching children the facts. Good job, dinkwad.
For those interested in serving the public, this fundie is a first grade teacher here:
http://www.columbia.k12.mo.us/rue/
I suggest people make this quote public knowledge, as it seems borderline illegal if you ask me.
IF the link above to her school is accurate, here's her email: cglasco@columbia.k12.mo.us
and that of her principal: eschumac@columbia.k12.mo.us
asst superintendent:
jjensen@columbia.k12.mo.us (bio mentions that he's on the board at his church, and a little digging on their website shows they had a creationist sermon this summer, so he'll be in her corner more than likely)
and superintendent: pchase@columbia.k12.mo.us
What did I ever do without The Google?
It's all work email on a govt site and easily found via google. I wouldn't link anybody's home info or anything, but if she's a public servant who is not acting in the public interest, isn't contacting her superiors the responsible thing to do?
If I vaguely suspected that Crystal is teaching in my schools I would have her tossed out on her ear. Not because of the reference to "young earth crap" because that would probably irrelevent to first graders. I would want her out because she is a willing follower of a tax-cheat and a liar, fleecing people in the name of the lord. This means that either she is a naive boob, unintelligent enough to teach children, or, like her mentor, an immoral shyster with questionable credentials to be teaching children.
re: posting contact info --
I would understand the concern if personal info were being posted, but it looks like only public (in the sense of not only publicly-available but publicly-funded) contact information has been brought up. Since Crystal seems to be describing her habit and intentions of taking some pretty distinctly unethical actions in her capacity as a public individual and funded by public money...yeah, there would seem to be a pretty strong argument for contacting a supervisor.
Looks like Crystal forgot to read the first rule of teacherhood:
Be careful about everything you say and do because it WILL be used against you and your state of employment. Especially when it's on the internet.
If you are referring to me encouraging harassment, that was never intended. What I meant was that her supervisor should be contacted and people should know that this kind of stuff is happening in public schools. Harasment would solve nothing, and would only hurt the cause. Again, do NOT harass anyone, but make a logical argument against this fundie and her ways.
I see nothing at all wrong with the information that has been posted, or the charge to contact her supervisors and inform them that she is drawing government money to teach her brand of mythology. It is reprehensible for her to assume that everyone wants their child to be a close-minded, intentionally-ignorant, gawd-fearin' faith-head. And it is repugnant for her to act on that assumption. If my child were in her class, I would want this very same thing to be happening. I would want rational-minded citizens to inform the teacher's supervisors that she is breaking rules and laws, and teaching my child a pack of lies.
I am thankful that there are people like those found at FSTDT and over at the RD site who will stand up and declare that they are not going to put up with the fundie god-bots, going about their way to subvert the US Constitution, and brainwash the young and innocent among us.
Corney? Perhaps.. but that's how I feel. So thank you, FSTDT and posters from Dawkins' site.
Nobody said harass hr. They said that it might be appropriate to pass the post on to her school district.
Bunyip: are you a mod here? If not, why are you taking it upon yourself to police this forum?
Poe, but fits the mindset of fundie: make sure those little 'kiddos' don't hear anything that doesn't agree with HER views.
Because of course, teaching children is all about HER...damn that's the really sad part.
I highly doubt that this is a Poe, as her myspace is also dedicated to the Creationist example.
Just spent half an hour typing up a letter to the school board. Sent it just now. Page long-ish?
I emailed the board of ed. I will let you know if they respond.
"It appears that this may be one of your teachers. If so, you may wish to speak with her in order to avoid legal action by some of the parents of the children in your school system. "
They responded to mine:
Thank you for expressing your concerns. I have visited with our employee and can assure you that she is teaching our first grade curriculum in line with district expectations for first grade. She has not purged any Columbia Public School documents or materials from her room. Her blog reference about filtering materials was meant in reference to her personally owned materials.

So, yeah. If that's true, then no legal action for the school.
But I feel so bad for her kids, though...
Confused?
