The Bible is perfect. If the Bible were not perfect then people could pick and choose what to believe. I have seen those who believe the Bible is fallible do this. I will not name any names or anything but I have seen it done by some people.

Excuse me, PL02, but is that your fundamentalist cherry-picker parked out front? Could I borrow for a while? You see, I'm going to be debating the bible and I need to prepare my arguments.
Of course the bible is perfect - that's why we have at least a dozen different versions of it, thousands of books explaining what it means, and hundreds of denominations of christians, each of which is sure it's the only True one.
I have never heard a Christian correctly state the New Testament's teaching on the wearing of gold and pearls by women. Very few seem to know what it actually says about slavery, and those who do have contorted arguments that it means the opposite of what it says. Yet they believe that the Bible is perfect and that they are following all of it.
I actually agree. If Christians are going to believe that their ancient book is TOTALLY true and if you disobey anything in it you're going to hell, they should at least obey everything in it!! If you are gonna cite Leviticus as proof that God hates gays, you better fucking call a priest every damn time your house gets mildew. That's in Leviticus too!
go and read her CF blog. go on, i dare you. she's catholic. then pentecostal. then catholic. then methodist. then anglican. then catholic again.
all of these (and more) actually since january.
actually, her livejournal is much more hilarious, but i can't find the link. :(
I see, so you've never shaven, worn polyester, eaten hamburger, or any of those things right? And you've always given your kids a good stoning to death when they misbehave to ensure they wouldn't disobey again?
I'm a Christian and I'll admit the Bible is NOT perfect...it was written by men. It CONTAINS the Word of God and *some* divine commands but it also contains the words of Satan, the words of angels and the words of people-it also contains opinions and outright falsehoods...that's one reason why God gave us a brain--to differentiate between divine commands and people's opinions. Yes, I cherrypick because it is impossible and impractical to follow the whole Bible...not to mention downright detrimental in some parts.
People ARE picking and choosing what to believe, you have to be VERY stupid to not realize this. Does that mean that the Bible is not perfect? Some people focus way too much on the homophobic aspects of the Bible, but not as much on "the greatest of these is love". Who, today, picks the parts with the ban on picking sticks on the sabbath, or eating shellfish, or wearing clothes of mixed fabrics, or what to sow on which field?
PeaceLover02, would you marry and impregnate your brother's widow? Or, if you're female, would you marry and carry the baby of your sister's widower? God explicitly demands this of y'all, ya know.
Well, the bible is not perfect and people do cherrypick from it, but not only because it's imperfect, but because idiotic fundies try to make it look inerrant!
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
