[and what is the dogma held by all atheists?what are the rituals followed by all atheists? i've known some for years. i haven't seen any core beliefs, strictures, etc. they have no buildings set aside for their followers, no special sites,(land wise). what are their basic books?]

Dogma=there is no god; rituals=ridicule those who believe in any diety; buildings=clubs, libraries, science labs or anywhere that man can trump God in their eyes; basic books=anything made by Man that opposes God. Sad lot.

Not dogma, I'm quite open to changing my mind about the non-existence of gods. If you can produce adequate proof.

Not a ritual; I don't ridicule people for believing in a deity, many people I greatly admire do so. However, I do ridicule stupid people of any belief, perhaps the question you should be asking is why so many especially vocal and stupid people are of your belief.

Libraries and science labs are open to, and frequently used by, people of all beliefs as well as of none, hence are clearly not "set aside" for atheists as you imply. Atheist/secular clubs is a red herring since the vast majority do not have dedicated buildings to meet in and free-association is anyway our human right. The "anywhere" is a just meaningless.

First, all books are made by men (and women), second the non-religious might collectively have a number of generally well-liked books, like say The God Delusion, but there no unchallengable (or unchallenged) books to be revered by all.

I like knowledge, intelligence, reason, learning...I ridicule fundies...and I believe in a higher power...

I do confess, though, I'm a Wiccan & I am an atheist when it comes to deities as independent beings rather than cosmic archetypes. I do believe in the spiritual realms, afterlife, paranormal, etc. though...I'm a Pantheist. Deity, Our Lady & Lord, are the Universe(s) & the forces within.

That's my worldview, at least. Not everyone shares it & I respect their right not to.

I DO NOT respect FUNDIES!

That said....TONS of people of Religious/Spiritual faith are scientists, scholars, librarians, etc. and have no problem with secular/sciencey stuff. Lot's of devout Christians have accepted science, evolution, modern values, etc. for years....WHY STOP NOW?!

Actually, I tend to leave non-fundies pretty much alone. Though if you change that to "ridicule fundies" then I could definitely say that's a ritual of mine.

I love how fundies associate science with atheism. It's like they enjoy shooting themselves in the foot.

I'm actually pretty happy and most atheists I know are happy. But if I ever felt I needed the community and support structure religion provides I could always join a liberal church like the Unitarian Universalists.

Doctor Who
Dogma = the Doctor will save us all from the Daleks, Rituals = watching Doctor Who, Buildings = all filming locations, the TV studios, and exhibition/convention spaces, Books = the tie-in novels and other related thing.

Knitting
Dogma = making things out of yarn is awesome, Rituals = knitting, Buildings = yarn stores and spinning factories, Books = pattern books and technique guides.

Toilet users
Dogma = using the toilet is superior to shitting on the ground or in a cesspit, Rituals = crapping in a toilet, Buildings = lavatories, Books = anything you can read on the loo.

What are the core beliefs of Christianity?

Dogma = there is no other god than the God of the Bible. Rituals = demonize those who believe in any other deity, or no deity at all. Buildings = political lobbies, churches, creationist museums, or anywhere that the influence of their religion is supreme in their eyes. Basic books = anything made by Man to promote their God and discredit other belief systems. Sad lot.

*sigh* The sad thing is, this is probably closer to truth, at least as far as June Reis is concerned. And the first part is objectively closer to truth, no buts, no ifs. No matter how you put it, a lack of belief is less dogmatic that an explicit rejection of every other divine being.

Dogma: N/A. Atheism is the lack of belief, not the belief in nothing. Similar, but distinct in that the belief in nothing is still a belief. Sort of.

Rituals: N/A. How do you have rituals for a lack of belief?

Holy buildings/sites: N/A. Yes, let's get together on a specifically set day every week to hold rituals for a lack of belief. Great idea /sarcasm

Holy books: N/A. You can't chronicle something that doesn't exist, IE, all an atheist "holy book" would contain is "I don't have any belief in at least one god." Again, atheism is a lack of belief carried by literally everyone to some extent (IE, Christians are atheists in that they don't have belief in any god other than their own).
