The whole point of Bhuddism is to eventually do nothing. It is to reach "Nirvana", to "let go" of all things, is it not? So, in other words, you become a useless person, a person who never helps thier fellow man, who does nothing for anyone, even themselves. You stop working, you stop having fun, you stop everything. It is nothing more than a breathing suicide. That people actually follow this insane philosophy from a moronic inbred prince who couldn't even "let go" of his massive gut, that died with nothing but his filthy cloak and a burst stomach is depressing.

Buddhists seek to do good in the world. We give to charities, seek to improve the world and thing s like that. And unlike Christ-stains, we have started few, if any, wars.
The whole point of Christianity is to eventually be nailed to a cross. It's to reach "Heaven", to "let go" of all rational thought and just lay on clouds all day long, is it not? So, in other words, you just sort of lay there, not doing anything, helping no one. You stop being challenged, you stop your real life. It's nothing more then a coma in which you're happy. That people actually follow this insane philosophy from a moronic inbred prince who couldn't even "let go" of his massive gut, that died with nothing but his filthy cloak and a burst stomach is depressing.
Fixed.
I thought us Wiccans were fairly peaceful but the Buddhists are tops in my book.
"you stop having fun" If you're a dour fundie, Rengar you have to appreciate the hilarity of this comment.
*funereal music* Are we having fun yet?
You know nothing of Buddhism, do you?
BTW, about that "letting go of all" thing...you might wanna reread some of the things Jesus said...
Hey Bhuddy.
I'm a practicing "Bhuddist". Me and my "Bhud's" sit around, do nothing and listen to Nirvana while smoking a bowl.
Oh, wait. that's not right either.
Buddhism doesn't work that way. I've studied it enough to know. Nirvana is the goal of Buddhists, and it's something that happens in the afterlife. Not here, although it is possible to attain Buddhahood here. And Siddhartha Guatama was not overweight. You are thinking of later Buddhas. Siddhartha was actually quite fit, as he was a prince, vegetarian, and a martial artist. So do a little more research, dumbass, before you go spouting about shit you know nothing about.
"So, in other words, you become a useless person, a person who never helps thier fellow man, who does nothing for anyone, even themselves."
Ideally. But, then again, it simultaneously lauds good works, speech, and thought, so...hard to say.
"It is nothing more than a breathing suicide."
Or, as you and your ilk to call it, monasticism, transcendence, being "in the world but not of it". Christianity has much in common with Buddhism in this respect.
"That people actually follow this insane philosophy from a moronic inbred prince"
People who follow magic hobos shouldn't throw stones.
""let go" of his massive gut"
Different Buddha.
After the Tsunami in Myanmar early this year, another Board I am on raised about $A12,000 to support the Burmese people. It was all sent directly to a Buddhist Monk known to the Board owner, no overhead wastage at all) who spent three months travelling to all the worst hit areas to provide rice, water, clothing, roofing and other essectials to the people in need. The only thing he got from it was a new camera, because his was lost during the trek he made, and he even asked permission to do that..
Is that doing nothing you fucking moron? We sent him this money, he spent it and three months of his own time tirelessly helping other people. I would not send pricks like you 5 cents, because people like you don't leave their basements.

Damn, you got my hopes up.
Another fucking homeschooled, retard, ignorant, numbnut, asshatted, clownshoe fundy windowshitter.
Clueless with regard to Buddhism.
Uhh.. Buddhists still help people, they just think the route of all suffering is desire. So they stop desiring material things, sexual things, etc. Hey, kind of like what Christians are supposed to strive for!
"So, in other words, you become a useless person, a person who never helps thier fellow man, who does nothing for anyone, even themselves"
But this would be after you're dead.
"prince who couldn't even "let go" of his massive gut, that died with nothing but his filthy cloak and a burst stomach is depressing."
So according to him Buddhism and Chrisrianity DO have a lot in common.
Just joking, i actually have some respect for buddhism
@BobMalarky:
"they just think the root of all suffering is desire"
Christians of Rengar's type seem to mostly desire suffering, and find it ennobling. Not surprising they would find Buddhism incomprehensible.
Buddhism is not a religion but a philosophy.
There is no such thing as a Buddhish terrorist, thiers is a philosophy of harmony with all living things and the universe at large.
Christianity is a religion which seeks only expansion and domination, converting by force in many cases and is #1 in deaths of the innocent to maintain its hold.
It is a parasite.
The fat guy? Yeah, not Buddha. Your probably thinking of the guy you see at Chinese restaurants. He's actually a Chinese prosperity god, sometimes covered in lots of children. He's basically a good luck charm. There's also a chubby japanese one that was based on a Buddhist monk, but I doub't you'd know about that.
Here's a picture of the standard Buddha. Note that he is thin, mostly because he only ate what was given to him.

Meh, why do I try, it's not like they actually want to learn.

There are different types of Buddhism and in some parts (like Thailand), Buddhism is the official religion. (And some extremist Buddhist sects hunt down and kill Christians, but they're waaaay in the minority).

You mean these buddhists?
Also, remember that Buddha basically was a super bad ass who killed people. Hindu Princes don't get to be leaders unless they can fight. He probably got his first sword at the age of 5, learnt to shoot by 7, could ride well by 9. Knew military tactics and administration by 12. And had probably killed someone by the age of 15 in open warfare.
Although we do know that he died probably from Trichonosis. Remember that Buddha was an ATHEIST. He actually abhorred the concept of Gods. His entire point is, suffering is inately a human concept. If you don't CARE about suffering then you won't suffer. AKA, you are hungry because your body needs food. If somehow you can satisfy the hunger then you are no longer hungry. The point of the middle way is to not indulge in gluttony but neither to starve yourself.
I forgot to say this in my first comment, but I give a huge pile of kudos to the monk mentioned in fromdownunder's post. The guy deserves it, unlike some Christians whose only goal is to convert people when they visit third-world countries and disaster areas.
Re: Antichrist's post
The "Smiling Buddha" is the Japanese God Hotei (the God of Prosperity), usually counted as one of the 7 Fortunes in Japanese Mythology, along with Benzatien, Bishamon, Hachiman Taro etc...
The other one is Kwannon (the Japanese goddess of Compassion/Mercy), who with her Chinese counterpart, Kuan-Yin, was based on the Indian Boddhisattva Avalokitevishara, whose name means "The Lord Of Complete Enlightenment" who was male, had 1000 arms in order to care for the suffering, & reportedly, a fine set of "Man Boobs"...
Wrong.
As for the fat buddha, that's not only another buddha, who is still to come, it's also a metaphor. He's fat because he carries the sorrows of the world in his belly, in spite of that he laughs.
So, no... no wandering sumo-man creating a new religion.
As for buddhist theology, its not about inactivity, but about right action. Although I gather that at least some schools do suggest inactivity when there is uncertainty towards what the right action is, the religion is most certainly not about inactivity as a rule.
Now me, I don't really need any religion, but you know what I like about Buddhists, Hindu's and Jews? None of those feel the need to badger you with their beliefs, the way I've seen some Christians, Mormons, Muslims and adherents of small vague sects do.
Non-conversion religions are allright like that, they mind their own business.
"is it not?"
No, it's not.
The goal of the poster appears to have been to claim that his own ideology would be superior to a supposedly failing Buddhism philosophy. This "navel gazing do-nothing" stereotype is a common Christian apologist straw-man against meditation. And with the typical "wasted life" salvation argument, I'll assume it's Christianity.
Something interesting about Buddhism is that it can be theist or not. As others mentioned it's also concerned with the avoidance of suffering. In my view, also to cope with suffering and the denial of death, like other religions.
This aspect has been used for exploitation, like with other religions. Accept your lowly rank, it's only temporary, you cosmically deserve it, be a good worker for your (possibly "divinely appointed") master.
Then as with other religions, some preach and practice peace and charity, there's mysticism and enlightenment, pseudomedicine, there are warriors and some committed crimes against humanity. There's also mainstream and fundamentalist cult movements, syncretic new age ones...
Confused?
