The deeper issue between evolution and creationism is intelligence vs morality.
Christians place a high value on morality. An atheist often places a high value on intelligence instead. An atheist will brag and boast about how smart they think their ideas are, and mock and belittle anyone who disagrees. Christians see this as rude, unethical, or immoral --behavior-- and are turned off by it, even if the science makes a great of sense.
That is why often times the more an atheist thinks they are winning the argument, the more they drive away the audience they are trying to reach.
Why do young people seem less interested in religion than adults? The reason is once you have kids, being --factually correct-- begins to become less of a priority than being moral. You become more interested in instilling strong morals in your kids, not wanting to see them become some kind of juvenile delinquent. You come to understand that a moral base is more important for success in society than intelligence.
Humans often come to understand the true value of religion once they have kids of their own to raise.
