i dont see how the painless raping of an innocent person is worse than the painless KILLING of an INNOCENT animal

This is veganism and animal rights in a nutshell. They want to end all exploitation of animals (pets, zoos, farms, aquariums) no matter how good exploitation is for the survival of a species. Fact: As humans, the smartest species on Earth, we have the full right to dominate our planet and sustainably exploit any species we please. I'd eat whale, dog, rat, crocodile, shark, etc. Koko the gorilla and Alex the parrot are proven bullshit, and I challenge any "smart" non-human animal to build a skyscraper. If they can't do it they don't deserve human rights.
Even assuming there is no physical pain involved (which, in itself, would be rather unlikely), the rape victim will undoubtedly suffer emotional and/or psychological pain.
There is no such thing as a 'painless rape'.
Edit:
@Randomosaur
What you're saying is almost as much bullshit as the OP. I don't have a problem with eating meat, but this is because this is what happens in nature - one animal eats another. The way that humans do it is simply much more sophisticated than all other animals.
@randomouser. again, there are cases of animals being friends even though they should be enemies. like Bondigger the Lion and Bullet the Winner Dog. and I've never personally seen a dolphin rape anything.
if intelligence is all that matters, I guess mentally retarded people don't deserve rights.
@ Randomosaur
Not all animal rights proponents want to end zoos and aquariums. I want what's best for the survival of animal species--in some cases, zoos and aquariums are all that is keeping endangered species alive. Some animals simply cannot live outside of captivity because their natural habitats and food sources are gone. They rely on human intervention. Species we eat for food are being kept in their current thriving numbers BECAUSE we eat them for food. That's fine; not many people are calling for that kind of extreme overhaul (PETA excepted). I would like an end to exploitative animal cruelty... I see no issue with eating meat as long as the animal was treated humanely and dispatched with minimal pain. Factory farms where chickens are forcefed until they're too heavy to stand up are barbaric and cruel; free range chickens are less so.
Humans are not necessarily the smartest species on earth. Nor does the ability to build a skyscraper mean anything in the long run. You have the right to seek the preservation of your own life above the preservation of animals, that is true--if you need to eat an animal to live, feel free. But it is unreasonably cruel to dominate, humiliate, and mutilate animals just because you can.
That being said, this OP is an idiot and has no idea how horrible rape is.
@Randomosaur ever seen how complex and organised some insect hives are? Ever seen how good beavers are at planning out dams, canals, levies etc? In fact in many cases beavers are better at water management, flood prevention, and irrigation then humans.
I suppose that, technically, raping an unconscious person is painless *at the time*, provided you're not too rough about it.
But you're still exposing them to risks of STDs, risks of social costs and/or penalties, and pregnancy risks in the case of PIV rape, *without* their permission to be exposed to those risks and at no benefit to them. All that still counts as serious harm. And even knowing that this happened to them will cause mental suffering in some people, and they probably will find out about it sooner or later. I'd say it's roughly on par with randomly shoving someone off the end of a long dock into a badly contaminated lake without caring if they know how to swim.
@Randomosaur: So you're a psychopath, then. Noted.
@Musicalbookworm: plenty of vegans are non-militant. I dated one for a few years. She owned two cats, was fine with my omnivorous diet (and she even pointed me to local cruelty-free sources). She has no problem with zoos that actually provide proper space & care for their animals, or with others eating animal products. She just dislikes factory-farming, the fur industry, and actual animal cruelty (as do I). And she personally prefers vegan food, though she does use local honey.

Stephen Hawking is paralyzed, but not a dumbass. I'm not suggesting killing all currently living people with Down syndrome but just saying we should prevent any future ones from being born. Even then, they're still human, not animals. We have known since the time of Descartes about the idiocy of anthropomorphism. You are not a non-human animal so you can not tell if they are sentient or just organic machines. Therefore non-human animals have no rights. I would happily skin alive a baby panda if there were no negative consequences. The fact is that until I see a cow build a skyscraper or a plane or use the internet in a competent way (perhaps not literally but you know what I mean), I will continue to believe that animals exist to be (sustainably) exploited.
Few rapes are painless, and the largest pain is usually psychological; the biggest problem with rape is not the pain, but the violation of a person's right to his or her own body. It's like a burglary; sure, it's hard to lose the possessions, but sometimes the thought that someone else has been roaming around in your stuff is harder to get over.
And yes, the killing of an animal also violates that right, but then it's over, gone. You don't have to live years and years with the violation fresh in your memory.
@Randomosaur
What a completely disgusting and arrogant attitude towards the animal world/ecosystem. It's said you can learn all you need to know about a man by how he treats animals. Also i wouldn't get too carried away with the selective abortions route, you sound exactly like my friend who is on the spectrum and i'm sure sociopathy would probably get screened out too.
"I would happily skin alive a baby panda if there were no negative consequences".
yeah I woulden't be suprised if you end up being quoted here.
Oh please, how does using the Internet demonstrate sapience ?
I mean, have you seen yahoo answers ?
@rubber chicken
OK, I laughed.
Confused?
