When one talks to a Leftist, and, at first, they seem sane and normal, as well educated as any man, or, at least, as well educated about recent matters. Of the past they know nothing.
And they are sane and normal on any topic except those touching their central insanity, the self-destructive philosophy they use to smother the conscience and to excuse themselves from any obligation or debt of fealty to the civilization in which they live.
Once that spot is touched, they utter word-noises without meaning, meant only to halt thought and halt debate, invariably an ad hominem attack to shut up any questions shining light on that spot.

So what is it called when righties use a combination of Ayn Rand, the Bible, and their own prejudices to have wars, harm thosr not like them, and screw over our economy and yet do so without it ever hitting their conscience which only seems to come when called out on their hypocrisy?
Let me guess, this destruction of civilization that is being aided and abetted by leftists is the acceptance of same-sex marriage, tolerance of the transgendered community, opposition to torture and anything else associated with progressivism.

Of the past I know quite a lot; history was one of my favorite subjects in school. Around the time when "Leftism" came around, life expectancy and quality of life improved significantly for most people.
What do you know about your country's history from, say, a thousand years ago?
I'd say that the unrestrained capitalism that lead to the fall of the Lehman Brothers etc, or greedy processes like fracking and coal mining, will destroy our civilization much faster, than universal healthcare and sharing our common resources equally will.
