An open letter to Richard Dawkins. You are a man with brilliant intellectual achievements and a very daring and brave man as well. To write a book refuting the existence of an Intelligent Designer indicates you must have an incredible belief in the alternative. While my knowledge of history is limited, my personal experience and my acquaintance with a vast number of people from many countries, language groups and heritage, clearly indicate you have been deceived. God is.

On the contrary: the alternative, that there is no intelligent designer, requires not a shred of belief. It is a default, neutral state.
You don't need to have something else to believe in before you can disbelieve something else.
Translation:
"I'm unwilling to support my beliefs with anything more substantive than vague assertions, and I'm unwilling to understand, let alone engage and disprove your arguments, but God exists. Because I believe he does! So there!"

God is deceived?
The keyword here is: my knowledge of history is limited
Dawkins outruns you in history, physics, biology, astronomy and pretty much any intelligence-based exercise, even if he has to use his automated wheelchair.
Mr Furlong,
Have you read the book in question? Perhaps if you had it would have addressed the issues you have with Prof. Dawkins.
Personal experience, is by its very nature, biased. What you would consider a vast number of peoples, may not be representative of all the cultures currently living on this planet. If you are really interested, consider taking some college courses in Anthropology.
I do hope that you will come to realise that you are the one who has been deceived. The world is a much larger and more interesting place than you think.
Yours truly,
A concerned atheist.

um... Dawkins doesn't use a wheelchair. I think you are thinking of Stephen Hawking.
Many words, saying nothing. Polite, though.
"Vast number" and "many" are not magical words. Science is not a popularity contest.
"my personal experience and my acquaintance with a vast number of people from many countries, language groups and heritage"
read: people I talk to on online conservative forums who claim to be from other countries.
"God is."
God is what? A thousand foot high dick with bells on top? A perambulating key lime pie? Newsflash, Graeme: JUST BECAUSE LOTS OF PEOPLE BELIEVE SOMETHING, IT DOESN'T MAKE IT TRUE. For instance, lots and lots of people believe that Adele has a good singing voice; but it's sheer delusion, my friend, sheer delusion.
Confused?
