I always considered unveralism to be
Something like Unitarism where they don't
Actually believe in God as well as accept Christ
As their Savior & Lord but they believe in
Wierd stuff from what I heard.

As someone who was raised UU, I can tell you, you're way off base. Most of them are former Christians if that tells you anything.
It's no weirder than anything else (though the sermons were boring as hell).
She is actually a nice person.
Liberal pricks.
Hey hey! Some of us are libertarian pricks! Thank you very much!
And for the record there Bwent, she could be Oprah freakin' Winfrey, but that doesn't mean her post is any less fundie, and doesn't make her any more informed.
Sorry, jppt1974, but that statement is utterly incorrect. I am a Unitarian Christian, and yet I believe in God and do my best to follow Jesus's teaching. I may not buy into a lot of the religious baggage that fundies like to try and push on me, but I'm still a Christian nonetheless.
The points to take away are these:
1) Universalism and Unitarian are two different things. Not all Unitarians are Universalists, and vice-versa.
2) Unitarians can be Christians too.
3) Believe it or not, your denomination doesn't have a monopoly on religious truth.
Eh, her internet persona may be "nice," but she's still wholly misinformed - and it's awfully darn arrogant to broadcast opinions on things of which you are clearly ignorant. Maybe she could try to learn something about Unitarians before she decides they believe in "wierd" (sic) stuff. That would be nice.

Jesus heard that, B®ent...
Also, I never said that jppt1974 wasn't "nice". She may be very, very nice -- but that still doesn't mean her comment is very, very uninformed.
When you complain to Christian Forums (again), you might point that out -- should you decide not to pick and choose people's comments the way you pick and choose Scripture.
Hey jppt1974: Before you start spewing blather about something you have no idea about, read up, idiot. Then feel free to present an idea that makes some sort of sense (if that's possible). And learn to spell. Geez.
UberLutheran,
Your presence on this site, chumming it up with people who insult, belittle, and trash believers in God, proves what I've thought for a long time: "liberal Christians" are hypocrites.
"Liberal Christians" NEVER stop talking about "love and tolerance," while viciously attacking their opponents at every turn.
According to Jesus, it will be more tolerable for Sodom than for religious hypocrites. Keep that in mind.
Hate to be the one to tell you this but if this country was founded on any religion, like you fundies insist, it would be the Unitarian faith. Washington, Jefferson, Monroe, and Madison were all Deists (the 18th century equivalent to Unitarians).
Brent:
"Fundamentalist Christians" NEVER stop talking about "fire and brimstone," while viciously attacking their opponents at every turn.
The fact that you resort to mixing political stance with religious standing, broad and widely untrue generalizations, base insults, misinformation and hypocritical statements yourself does not lend your arguments any weight.
In fact, it only makes you seem like an antagonist.
Myself, I am neither atheist nor Christian, am open and accepting of others beliefs (or lack thereof), and am generally a nice person.
You, on the other hand, seem to be narrow-minded, prejudiced, accusatory, inflammatory, and have all the earmarks of an internet bully.
Learn to take other people's remarks with a grain of salt, and stop taking every slight as if it's a grave personal attack on you. You'll be a happier person for it.
TM,
Yes, Brent is a first-class imbecile, but with all due respect, let's not make fun of his job. There are approximately 31 million Americans who are either hungry or unsure of where their next meal will come from. Having been a part of the latter statistic, I just don't think that job-bashing is a good thing to do.
I actually think Office Max should increase Brent's hours. It might keep him from spreading his Christian lurrrrve around ze internetz.
That said, TM, I don't mind if you want to call him "life support for a tiny winkie" or whatever. LOVEyoo!
As another person raised UU, let me enlighten the rest of the world:
Unitarians believe in the Bible, Christ, etc, but they reject the trinity (they're not TRINITarians). So they're a rather different type of Christian than what people typically think of.
Universalism is simply the idea that every one is forgiven or whatever by god and goes to heaven.
While these two religious beliefs are not incompatible (as evident by, y'know, the Unitarian Universalist Church), they aren't exclusively bound. My parents actually identified as Unitarian but not Universalist (since when they were a part of the local church, the "universalist" faction was pressing for inclusion of more non-christian traditions, which my parents disagreed with).
Also, it's worth saying that UUs, while less prone to the type of fundamentalism that we talk about here, aren't necessarily nice people. After all, they did kick my family out of the church (and not for any real reason).
Confused?
