Not all scientists came up with what your saying. I have scientist who have proven your scientist wrong. So now what......science doesnt prove everything. Not everything can be explained with human thinking.

No they haven't. Only a tiny number of biological scientists have said that. The pro-creationism group "Discovery Institute" collected about 100 or so science PhDs (not necessarily biology experts) who agreed with the statement "I am skeptical of claims for the ability of random mutation and natural selection to account for the complexity of life. Careful examination of the evidence for Darwinian theory should be encouraged.", which is hardly a ringing endorsement of supernatural creationism. In fact, many admitted that they accepted that humans and chimps have a common ancestor. A similar petition, arranged as a parody, listed almost 1,300 scientists just with the name "Steve" or one of its variations who agreed that "Evolution is a vital, well-supported, unifying principle of the biological sciences, and the scientific evidence is overwhelmingly in favor of the idea that all living things share a common ancestry". Since only about 1% of the population is named Steve, this implies about scientific 130,000 supporters. So that makes the creationist scientist supporters about eight-hundredths of one percent - that's about 1/150th of the number who believed the world would end in 2012.

So, the sole criterion for credibility is having written a book included in the Bible?

Science is impossible to fake on anything otyher than a short-term basis as there are many scientist in many locations working for many different organizations who will check one's results. The more revolutionary or outlandish the result, the more other scientists will check it out. It's self-correcting.

Not so for the Bible. It's brimming with outlandish claims, but the provided "proof" often amounts to nothing more than "The Bible says it, so it must be true." Really not at all good enough, bumpkin.

P.S. I don't believe you've read the entire Bible. Either that or you're a total dullard... or both.

Both Fitnessky and his correspondent are wrong. The age of the earth was worked out by Anglican Archbishop of Armagh (Ireland), James Ussher, in the 1600s. This was long before the Bible was subjected to critical analysis in the 1800s.

As to the final question about having read, or not read the Bible, it is very unwise. If you read it with an open mind and without preconceived ideas about its supposedly divine origin, the contradictions and errors are clear enough. It would take a study of Koine Greek and Hebrew to ferret out the mistranslations. And there is little help when one encounters terms that are so long out of currency that nobody has any idea what they mean: at best an inaccurate guess is all that it possible.

Common sense demands that the Bible be studied and interpreted in the light of the times in which it was written, and the customs and culture of those times (and places). If it were being written today, its teaching would be very different. The foregoing makes it obvious that divine authorship, if accepted, posits a god that is far from omniscient, and may be even plural, or at least have rivals acknowledged by himself.

The only genuine way to use the Bible is to recognise its flaws and make allowances for them, and to apply all its rules and laws without cherry-picking the ones that must be observed whilst ignoring others. To do otherwise is to admit, tacitly, that it is a fabrication of bronze age man - which is what most sensible people do, without necessarily dismissing it as a guide to leading a good/decent life.

Concerning this wonderful website (and in particular, the accompanying web forum) I know I don't have that stellar reputation. I know I'm volitale & tend to get over-excited & at times, totally unhinged.

For those on the accompanying Forum. Please bear with me. Don't hate me. You can be bemused at my weirdness but don't look down on me as a person. I'm on your side, I'm one of the good guys, my hearts in the right place & I CARE.

I will be taking a brief sabbatacal from the Forum part of FSTDT and just stick with the main site. I'm actually treated better here than there.

I agree.

I even have a theory concerning Christianity & The New Testament. I believe that Jesus was both a Jew & a great sage & that he recognized that his own religion had become a massive Demiurgic mess that was no longer culturally relevant. He then went to reform the Jewish Faith into something kinder, gentler, more humane, more humanitarian & much simpler.

When the NT was originally written, it was meant as a replacement & the OT being relegated to an outmoded, auxiliary role.

Christianity was Judaism 2.0 but the early Church after Constantine turned it into a Demiugic mess, fused the OT as equally valid while paradoxically denying Christianity's Jewishness & passed it off as a totally different religion.

Also, when Jesus stated that he did not come to abolish the Law, he simply meant the 10 Commandments, not the big mess that is the Mosaic Law. The 10 Commandments are short, sweet, to the point & common sense; Don't Lie, Don't Steal, Don't Murder, Don't Be Jealous, etc.

The bit about "I have not come to bring peace, but a sword" is either a later addition by unscrupulous translators or a mistranslation. It's out of character for the Nazarene to say this. If he said it, it should be worded "I have come to bring peace but others in my name will bring a sword...", basically stating that folks will misinterpret him & wage war & atrocities in his name.

In the long run, however, all scriptures should be taken with a grain of salt & I, for one, will just be an eclectic NeoPagan.

...but then, if he wants to prove me wrong, all he has to do is remove himself from FSTDT. Permanently.

He certainly refuses to listen to anything that anyone else says, least of all continue discussions/debates (and to answer questions to [i]our[/i] satisfaction) to their ultimate conclusion, when he's argumentally [i]cornered[/i].
