[Implying its women's fault for being abused]
I don't blame anyone for being abused. Of course that's not your fault. But what I'm trying to say is that if you walk out into a street, you're at the risk of being hit by a car. It's not your fault you got hit by the car but I mean....you were in the middle of the street.

Reminds me of a guy who argued it's not your fault you were raped, provided you took *every* *possible* precaution against it.
Consequently, he argued that another poster on the same board was partly to blame for being raped, because she had left open the window to her appartment thru which the rapist subsequently entered.
Well, by this guys "logic" a woman could be responsible for her rape by being anywhere. I mean, if she was raped, she was obviously in a place where a rape could take place. Bad girl!

Pope Forgives Molested Children.

"As Jesus said, 'Let he who is without sin cast the first stone,'" the pope continued. "We must send a clear message to these hundredsperhaps thousandsof children whose sinful ways have tempted so many of the church's servants into lustful violation of their holy vows of celibacy. The church forgives them for their transgressions and looks upon them not with intolerance, but compassion."
I can sort of see a point here, but it can't be applied very broadly. On the one hand, people do need to be conscious of the risks they're putting themselves in (things like getting black-out drunk at a party, or generally thinking danger is sexy, for that matter), but that doesn't mean people are asking for it.
How dare those uppity women speak out against their wise and faultless husband, eh?
To alter your analogy, it's more like a person walking out onto a clear street, and just when they get to the middle, someone floors it to hit them. They did nothing. Nothing. The fucker that hit them is the one at fault. He's the one who's so insecure in his power that the only way for him to feel like he has any cajones is if he beats someone who can't fight back. Such a "person" is a being lower than pond scum in my books.
Sorry. I'll calm down now, but ANYONE who blames anyone in an abuse situation other than the...thing that would do such a thing to another human being is an abhorrent excuse for a person.
This analogy is flawed. The road system includes a perimeter between 'road' and 'pavement or sidewalk'. The road is predominantly for vehicles (although pedestrians need to cross it) and the sidewalk is predominantly for pedestrians (although vehicles need to cross it,,, viz. access to parking garages or even your own driveway). Care should be taken by both parties when crossing the other's territory. Sidewalks were NOT created for immoral thugs and rapists,,, day or night. If the innocent woman was attacked while walking unescorted across the exercise yard in a state penitentiary, I'd agree with THAT analogy!
Confused?
