The Catholic Church continues to learn the painful lesson of allowing homosexuals into the priesthood. Let's not forget there are many homosexual priests entrenched in the church and they will continue to fight reform in this area. While the overwhelming majority of priests are wonderful men of God living the Christian life, many were there for the boy’s club atmosphere reminiscent of the destruction of WMCA. This has become a problem since the 1960's, (not for centuries), when restrictions on homosexuality in the priesthood were loosened due to the liberalization of Church policies in defining celibacy. The question was raised "what difference does ones sexual orientation matter if celibacy is an objective, After all we all as human beings have our crosses to bear"? Clearly a big difference.
This is not an idictment of homosexuality, rather of those predators who whish to abuse children and young teens.

Berating the church somehow increases the levels of molestation? Here I thought that when members of an organization which proclaims itself and its members to be the ultimate moral authorities for all mankind are constantly raping young boys, YOU KINDA WANNA CALL THEM OUT ON IT AND PUT A STOP TO IT.

First, Pedophilia =/= Homosexuality and Homosexuality=/= Pedophilia. Second, the church did not losen any restrictions against homosexuality, it is still as homophobic as ever. Third, some of those same PEDOPHILE priests, when given the opportunity, DID molest Female parishoners. The problem of pedophile priests has existed way before the 1960's. The problem is that instead of immediately calling out the guilty parties, the church hid them, moved them, and made pedophilia a sacrament. They way I see it, if you molest more, you move up the ranks. ..... Sickens me to thing how many children that bastard ratzinger has molested.......Lastly, you fail.

Not entirely true. Homosexual men are somewhat less likely to be pedophiles than heterosexual men. (Still more likely than women of any sexual orientation, and those numbers are still above zero, but heterosexual men and fixated men who present as heterosexual account for the overwhelming majority of pedophiles.)

Umm, no, these things have been going on for centuries. It's just leaking out now since the Catholic church is no longer allowed to threaten/kill people who want to say what the priest did to their little boy.

Your previous paragraph says otherwise. Besides, pedophiles are not necessarily homosexual and vice versa.
Interesting that you think the church only allowed homosexuals to become priests since the 60's. That was the only respectful way of disposing of 'questionable' boys for families for centuries. If you had a limp-wristed son, the only way to avoid scandal while gaining positive recognition was to send them into the priesthood. ...for centuries.

I wonder if the expression of these tendencies are cyclical, Berfel? Whereas you suggest that abuse of children has not gone on for centuries, do you think that the priests' previous obsession with ravening sadism and slavering torture will make a come back? Perhaps the Catholic Church's penchant for ripping apart living human bodies and other physical tortures will alternate with the sexual abuse of children for the foreseeable future?
I think the church's first mistake was to continue to admit religious types. Let's be quite clear on this, 100% of those twisted cassock-corrupters were strongly religious. So the obvious conclusion is that the Catholic preisthood only be open to less religious types like agnostics and full-on atheists.

Berfel seems to miss th point that celibacy does not mean chastity. Celibacy means simply not getting married!
The issue, contrariwise, is paedophilia, which is not homosexuality. Paedophiles tend to be heterosexual men.
There are a few major problems with your stance Berfel.
-The Catholic church is INCREDIBLY homophobic, an is as much so as ever. The Vatican would never allow gay ment to become priests.
-Gay =/= pedophile and vice versa. Most pedophiles are actually straight males.
-If by WMCA you mean the YMCA, it was FOUNDED by gay guys.
-As others have said, just because it was first being majorly reported in the 1960's doesn't mean it was happening before. Take Atheism for existence. There are for more Atheists who are open about their Atheism than there ever were, but there's been Atheists since at least the ancient Greeks.
-Whether or not the Catholic church allowed homosexuals as priests, the fact is they tried to hide that dozens upon dozens of kids were molested by TRUSTSED adults in the community.

The Catholic Church has a bunch of painful lessons to learn. Conservative Catholics teach that gays must be celibate the rest of their lives with focus on religion, then they become shocked and appalled that *gasp* many of them join a group that promotes celibacy and religion!
I also think it's funny how many portray the Church as a victim when in fact many of it's leaders knew about the molestations and did nothing to stop them.

No, they're not. If you're sexually attracted to children you're a paedophile, not straight. Blaming paedophilia on heterosexuality is no different, and has as little basis in fact, as blaming it on homosexuality.

So, a problem from the sixties. Let me see, some of the most henious cases date back from the 40s and 30s. There are references since, at least, XVII century. Do some maths, please.
