[Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy Kwanzaa, Merry Winter Solstice, Eid-Mubarak. Whatever your beliefs and whatever your language, may the season find you well. Peace on Earth and goodwill toward men. ]
Faith is what makes people well. If one instead worships the "Merry Winter Solstice," for example, God help him when the depression and anxiety and addiction and temptation hit.

OH NOES I'M ADDICTED TO THE WINTER SOLSTICE
Because none of those four things EVER affect Christians, right?
Actually the majority of my depression, anxiety and addictions came from conservative christian upbringing.
Since I embraced the "merry winter solstice" I'm much happier. Weeeeird, huh?
I got laid during Winter Solstice, all thanks to delicious Fox Fires and their religious signifance.
I bet you won't get any during christmas, now would you?
Yeah those people and their Solstice, celebrating with all those pagan things like decorated trees and wreaths and mistletoe. They should be ashamed.
I'm sure you don't do ANY of those pagan things, hm Andy?
I've been less depressed (and less suicidal) since becoming an atheist (well, actually admitting to myself that I'm an atheist 'cause I've been an atheist for many years now) than when I thought there was an invisible man watching me (creepy) and judging me (saddening).
When I worked in mental health, our christmas clients were almost always christians. I think because they build themselves up over Dec 25 then feel depressed when things don't go perfectly.
I'm pretty sure nobody WORSHIPS the Solstice, Andy.
And if faith makes you well, why do we even have doctors and psychiatrists? Surely all you need is faith to solve all your problems?
Here's an idea! Count the number of people with faith who are consigned to mental institutions, and the number without faith. Then you could, sort of, you know, compare the numbers.
If this is true, why do so many fundies have so many problems? Every alcoholic I've ever met has been a good Christian 12-stepper. Yet they still drink (in secret). Depression and anxiety? Want to count how many "Christian counsellors" there are out there? The ones who will only take other Christians as their clients?
As for temptation, well show me a person who isn't tempted by something.
Andy, andy, andy, stop posting nonsense, and put on your helmet - the short bus is here... Hurry!
@Brenz
Have you tried a Fundie, Left Behind type or something like Christian George, annihilator of Liberal Atheists or Sarah Righteous, scourge of the stupid Heathens?. There's a market for that sorta stupidity right now.
I'd do it but my sarcasm would sneak in
Ahhh, Andy Shitfly. Keep them coming, dude. Keep them coming. You are a great source of mirth for those of us who dwell in that place called "reality," so in the spirit of the holidays I say sincerely that I hope to read your mad ramblings for some time to come.
P.S. What an inspiration you are as an example of christian love and forgiveness. I hope all christians follow your lead. If so your little dead-Jew religion will burn out in no time.
I don't suppose you'd believe it if I said cats make me better (seriously). "Well" doesn't describe me right now, because I have genetically influenced brain chemistry problems and male:female hormone imbalance that contribute to depression and anxiety, plus experiences as a child that taught me to fear certain things which were reinforced by experiences as an adult (not to mention what I was told in the church about how worthless I am and how I can never be good enough). I'm an atheist, but about a dozen immediate and immediate-extended family members, all Christians, ALSO have these things. If faith makes you well, what's wrong with my family. . . and so many other Christians? I'm guessing the same sorts of things that apply to me (things which are confirmed to exist by observation), rather that worshiping another god or none at all.
@ Canadiest
One project tries to straddle both sides, though it's hard to argue reason will carry the day and still come out objective.
Believe me, I think of doing so very often, including just this morning.
What? So if you don't celebrate Christmas you won't get depressed or tempted?
Funny how I've heard that the Christmas season is when most people suffer depression. I'm sure most of them are Christians.
And when Ragnarok dawns, & the Fenris Wolf is feasting on Mr Schlafly, he might regret slandering Odin...
Alternatively, Loki might reprise Baldur's demise, & off Mr.Schafly with a sprig of Mistletoe through the heart...
oh, Andy , felice navidad to you.
apologies to the spanish speakers
How is being the son of the world's most imbecilic woman brightening your days, asshat?
Any honest man would commit suicide.
Confused?
