So now that Pluto is considered a star, not a planet, where does its light come from? Did it suddenly burst into flames and generate its own light? No, it didn't. It's light is the same light that is reflected off Mars. So the claims by scientists that stars generate their own light is sheer nonsense. It's as much speculation as speculating on how many stars there are in the universe.

Pluto is not now, nor has it ever been considered a star by anyone in its documented history.
As a dwarf planet, it doesn't give off light. You are right that the light that reflects off it is the light that reflects off Mars - that is, the light of the sun - but as for stars not giving off their own light ... fail. Just fail.

You couldnt handle it.
Wow. Read that thread. Epic LAWLZ all around.
"Why does Mars give off light?"
"It doesn't. It reflects light."
"So then how come it gives off light?"
"IT DOESN'T. IT REFLECTS IT."
"So then how come it gives off light?"
Rather, rinse, delete.
I never thought Pluto was considered a star, at least not a major one, rather he plays a supporting role for Mickey.
badoompTSSHH
And I know how many stars there are;
[e] All the above.
I have to wonder how Carico manages to survive; if there is anything at all he/she gets correct.
AAAAAAAARRRRRGHHHH
MY HEAD A SPLODE
Wha...bu...
...My brain hurts now
In our modern age, where the average human being is positively drowned in a constant deluge of information at a rate orders of magnitude greater than past centuries, it must surely take conscious effort to remain this fucking ignorant.
""So now that Pluto is considered a star, not a planet""
I'd write something funny here, but I just feel sorry for poor Carico, even if she's a troll, so I'll let it drop.
He failed, eight letters in. Is this a new record?
... actually wait, I thought I heard "God is love" once.
Ok, first sentence - Pluto didn't supply light so how is this a topic? Did you just open up your ass and pull something out? You must have. Pluto is not a star. Never has been, never will be.
Why don't any of you fundies actually pick up a book and learn about something before spewing your idiocy?
So now that Pluto is considered a star, where does its light come from?
Why the Disney Corporation, of course. They also light ou the Magic Kingdom, and the faces of millions of happy children every year. Seriously, Carico, are you so ignorant you missed the bit about a "dwarf planet," just like all the asteroids and comets? Asteroids, it's not just an 80s video game. they're also dwarf planets now.
So now that Pluto is considered a star, not a planet
*GUFFAW* It's been demoted, you asswipe, not PROMOTED!
I encourage others to read the thread from which this came. There's lots of good stuff.
If this guy is on the level, it really gives a graphic demonstration of the dangers of creationist teaching. He is totally ignorant of anything scientific and doesn't give science credit for having any explanatory power whatsoever.
"So now that Pluto is considered a star,"
YOU ARE SUCH AN IDIOT YOU ARE NOT WORTHY OF THE HUMAN RACE
PLEASE TURN IN YOUR REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM AT THE FRONT DESK AND EXIT WITH YOUR TAIL BETWEEN YOUR LEGS.
Carico's Brain (oxymoron?) appears to revolve around this simple algorithm when it comes to the solar system:
IF H(heavenly body)=1 PRINT "planet"
ELSE PRINT "star"
ENDIF
It's like saying In my fridge I have beef and pork. I then buy a bag of potatoes and put them in my fridge. Since the potatoes are not beef they must therefore be pork and so potatoes come from pigs and are not suitable for vegetarians.
Pluto is not a star, it was just downgraded from planet status.
Seriously, I'm amazed they let you near the computer without adult supervision.
YOU BLOODY MOTHERFUCKING COCKSUCKING MORON! WHERE THE FUCK DID YOU READ/HEAR THAT GODDAMN PLUTO IS A STAR.
It's a dwarf planet, a bloody glorified asteroid, a large-ish rock at the edge of the solar system, a frozen lump of nobody-gives-a-damn. It is, nor has ever been, nor will ever be considered any kind of star by anyone ever in the history, present and bloody future of this fucking universe. Now go read a recent and scientifically accurate astronomy book, or die in a blaze of your wrecked car colliding with a large truck.
I love the reasoning. Any object in space is either a planet, or a star. Pluto is no longer a planet, ergo, it is a star.
Oh God. I checked out the thread! She really is that dumb! I looked and now I am lost! My poor IQ! She's eating my IQ...... -brain dead-
Really though, how can someone that stupid remember to breath while they are asleep?
Apparently in fundie astronomy there are planets and stars and nothing else, probably because IIRC the Babble doesn't mention anything else. So if Pluto isn't a planet anymore, it must be a star! (sarcasm)
Edit: This reminded me of a conversation I had yesterday with a girl I know. We were watching The Universe on the History Channel On Demand and Neptune was mentioned as being the farthest planet from the sun:
Her: I thought Pluto was the farthest planet.
Me: No, Pluto isn't a planet anymore, so now Neptune's the farthest planet from the sun.
Her: If Pluto isn't a planet anymore, then what is it?
Me: It's a-- (I paused because I couldn't think of the term)
Her: Star?
Me: No, it's a--hold on, I can't think of the word... Dwarf planet.
Her (getting it): Oh.
Oh, I probably should have mentioned she's eight years old. So it's excusable for her to not know everything about astronomy. A person Carico's age, however--there's just no excuse.
Yes, the fundie periodic table and fundie Messier Charts are both considerably simplified too. They have 3 levels on their Mohs scale : soft, crunchy, and hard.
Ah, Carico...
Just when I think the depths of stupid have been plumbed, then you come up with another Marianas Trench (go look it up...).
What wise words do you have for us about Charon, then?
No, I don't mean the River Styx boatman.
I am hoping that this Carico is a) Single and b) a devote Christian.
For that means she has not had sex. And therefor has no children. Because someone that thick so NEEDS not to reproduce. No matter if you are a creationist or an evolutionist.... No kids for her. PLEASE.
And if she has kids... I may have to start praying.... just for them. Maybe they can escape.
<sigh>
it's now classified as a !!FUCKING!! planetoid.
Brain dead tosser
(ah shit, it's Carico, as bad as TnT for stupidity
Pluto isn't a god damned star. Nor has any intelligent person said so since it was first discovered.
Fuck. How can someone be THIS stupid, yet not so stupid that they can no longer use a computer?
It takes under five minutes to research this idiotic claim, and yet she cannot do it.
Aside from the utter stupidity that results in calling a star a planet...when we change what something is called it turns into that other thing? Really?
Okay. My empty chip bag is now classified as a full chip bag. This book is an X-Box 360 and this other book is Halo 3. Cool.
"Pluto" is a teeny rocky iceball.
A "star" is a giant, round ball of really, really hot gas.
"Carico" needs meds.
Once again, Carico demonstrates her complete lack of astronomical knowledge.
Seriously, this isn't the first time she's demonstrated the inability to comprehend the differences between stars and planets. WTF?
Heed my warning:
In our comments we've named Pluto a dwarf planet, planetoid, "not a star", "cartoon dog", "OH GOD THE PAIN" and so on and so forth.
Please, for the love of all things thinking, stop.
Settle on one name.
You're just fueling Carico's insatiable hunger for human frustration.
Reading her/his other posts, it seems he/she/it has a penchant for names, and every time someone "changes" the name of something, it/those/UFO takes it as no less than *proof* that science is inconsistent. AAAAHHHHHHHrrgghhh</mind>!!!
In the defense of almost everyone at those forums, they found it as funny and/or sad as we do.
What? Pluto is no longer a planet? this is grave news, but now at least we have another star in the solar system. (any idiot knows that there are only 2 kinds of heavenly bodies, planets and stars, so a simple bit of categorical logic tells us that if it is not a planet, it must be a star) though, I do think we had rather enough stars before hand, what with the (misnamed) asteroid belt (obviously it should be called the star belt)
I hate to make such an extreme claim in light of all available evidence, but this person has to be a Poe. Surely no-one living in the modern world can make such a stupid claim as this.
Oh, hang on, I remember now. Carico doesn't live in the modern world.
Pluto is not considered to be a star, Pluto is considered to be a dwarf planet.
I was going to say that this person fails massively then I saw that it's Carico, so that would be redundant.
So now that Pluto is considered a star, not a planet, where does its light come from? Did it suddenly burst into flames and generate its own light?
First, while Pluto is no longer a planet, it's definitely not a star either. It is a planetoid, as I recall...a chunk of rock not big enough to classify as a planet. No combustion was required for this.
No, it didn't. It's light is the same light that is reflected off Mars.
Please, someone correct me if I'm wrong, but as far as I'm aware, you cannot see Pluto with the naked eye, or even with an amateur telescope. So you weren't seeing any more or less light off of it as you were before.
So the claims by scientists that stars generate their own light is sheer nonsense. It's as much speculation as speculating on how many stars there are in the universe.
Oh, we have proof of a star generating light. It's called the Sun. Closest star Earth has.
I MOVED TO SOUTH BEND WASHINGTON STATE. ONE OF MY CATS WAS TAKEN WHILE I WAS SLEEPING AND OPERATED ON EACH SIDE OF HIS HEAD TWICE. THE POLICE AND SHERIFF DONT CARE. HE DRINKS ALOT OF WATER. ITS NEO-NAZI'S ACCORDING TO CERTAIN NEIGHBORS FROM ROOFING COMPANIES IN THE AREA. I SUPPORT ANIMAL RIGHTS, IF I CATCH HIM, I'LL BREAK EVERY BONE IN HIS BODY AND THE SOONER THE BETTER. NO LAW HERE EXCEPT FOR SPEEDING TICKETS. GLOBAL COMMAND
Lets do this scientifically. When the moon is between us and the sun, what do we see? Now when you put your hand between you and a lamp (without shade) in a dark room, what do you see? Conclusion, since the moon and your hand produce the same results (and we know your hand doesn't produce light), then they must both REFLECT light to be seen. Now since we can still see the sun when we orbit to the far side (and can see the fire with a low power telescope) then it must PRODUCE light.
Dont tell the believers what you believe and expect them to accept it. Show them how to think instead of believing.
As lord of the heavens I can say that I did not give written permission to this Pluto on changing almost every last one of its properties. Let us bring it before a panel of scientists; One from UTexas, one from Dartmouth, and one from Cambridge since those colleges are within the only countries that are making significant strides towards a better understanding of our solar system, not necessarily the universe as a whole.
Carico must have taken a Master Class in Stupid and aced it with straight A's. There is not one sentence in that post that makes the slightest sense.
Pluto is a dwarf planet these days, it never has been and never will be a star. Stars are suns and generate their own light, by definition. There's no speculation about that whatsoever.
Confused?
