[A video refuting astronomical evidence that the universe is older than 6,000 yrs.]

This was the guy who never went to a science class or lecture.
"A completely erroneous description of how the measurement of distance on the intergalactic scale are measured. Parallax, the method you describe, is NOT USED AT ALL. Instead, the use is of 'standard candles', such as supernovae of a particular type whose absolute brightness is known. The apparent brightness that we measure can then be related to the distance. Since the red shift is easily measured, we can relate velocity to distance. The earth is not 6000 years old. Get over it."
Pathetic. Only discusses one method of ascertaining distance, and neglects to mention spectral analysis. It's not just how bright the galaxy is, it's what frequencies of light it's bright in.
And that's just one of the numerous errors, along with a fundamental misunderstanding of how science works (ie becoming progressively less incorrect)
He claims that god can only tell the truth, and immediately afterwards suggests that god created this planet with an appearance of old age. Does he count this as a practical joke or something, and not lying?
"That means they don't know" should be your new name you fuckwit. Not knowing something exactly and having an average idea based on supporting EVIDENCE are two entirely different points which your small brain seems unable to grasp.
Exactly. He goes on and on about what a horrible error 2 billion years is (yet fails to mention that this was an error that made the universe 2 billion years OLDER than previously thought).
It's the old fundie hangup that everything that isn't absolutely right is absolutely wrong. There are no orders of accuracy. Or that changing a single variable a fraction of a percent can make a huge difference in astronomical distances. The 2-billion year difference may seem like a lot, but it's only about a 13% error from the previous estimate.
The "apparent age" theory is an old one, and, to be honest, completely irrefutable. It's also completely unprovable, too. This is the argument used by the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, and in that respect it's actually more plausible than the God of the Bible.
Regarding paralax, one of our best measurements is not dependent on it: the distance to supernova SN 1987 A. Because this supernova was actually observed shortly after it happened in 1987, we know exactly when it occurred. When it happened, light traveled outward in a ball (at the speed of light, obviously), and as it did so, it lit up interstellar dust. The Hubble Space Telescope was able simultaneously to measure the distance from the supernova to the dust (in light years) and the included angle between the lit-up dust and the star. Thus, we had the angle and the "side opposite" of a triangle. This allowed the calculation of the "side adjacent" (the distance from the supernova to the earth) by simple high school trigonometry. It was 169,000 light years.
Of course, it's always possible that God (or the FSM) created light from a false event that never occurred and made it look like something that happened 169,000 year ago. Then again, it's possible that the Bible is full of crap on this point.
I get it now! God created the earth 6,000 years ago and just gave an "antique" look to it, you know, to trick us into thinking it is billions of years old. How clever of God!
This video actually pissed me off. Especially the part where he says, "I'm right. It's barely over 6,000 years old. Get over it." AAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!
Summary of the video: Because scientists don't know everything, exactly, with 100% accuracy, we shouldn't trust anything they say, according to a person who whistles when he pronounces an "s" sound, in a video made with the benefit of computers and all prerequisite technology, which is obviously based on mere "speculation" according to him.
I mean, really! He claimed the Earth merely "looks" old! Actually, I agree. The world is, in fact, young; it was created last Thursday with only the appearance of previous age. Would he care to falsify that?
I wonder if we can give this guy a "Downside of Free Speech" Award. I'm all for free speech, but it means we have to put up with people deliberately trying to confuse others. Unfortunately, it allows the spread of misinformation as well. I shudder to think that some people might believe this.
I think the most annoying part was simply the hypocrisy; he devoted an Internet video to complaining that science is bad. Did he produce the video on a Bible? Did he upload it on a Bible? Does he host it on a Bible?
Confused?
