Wonder what would have been different had Hitler or Stalin been a Christian? 150 million people would probably be happier--at least alive to decide if they were happy or not.

sorry fella, hitler was a roman catholic and even wrote in mein kampf that he was a soldier of god. he even had the blessing of pope pius XII for the systematic murder of the jews. where are these people, and stalin was also a lapsed atheist who made peace with god (just before he commited the attrocities he did in russia) where are these people during history class??
I presume they mean had Hitler or Stalin been a Christian according to RR's extremely narrow definition of Christianity. Hitler, being Catholic by upbringing, would not fall into this category since "Catholics aren't Christians"...
So, if Hitler had been a member of their right-wing, extreme-Calvinist, pre-millenial, death-cult, would anything have been much different? Would anyone have been "happier"?
Somehow I doubt it. I suspect this "new" Hitler would just have rounded up anyone who didn't subscribe to his idea of "True Christianity" and gassed them anyway.
Doubtful, Stalin would have found an excuse to still carry out the killing, it was what was in his mind.
hitler was a christian you tool
Um... Hitler's religious beliefs tended to be more in line of whatever helped achieve his political goals at the time. He definitely wasn't a Christian in the clear-cut sense of the world. His beliefs in what constituted his 'deity' were very far from the Christianity we know today, although he also wasn't an atheist.

Saying he was a Christian is putting it a bit too simply IMHO, although he was definitely fucked in the head, so I doubt it would have mattered much what religion he 'officially' was.
Hitler could have found enough passages in the old testament, that would have supported him in commiting genocide on captured cities or in killing everyone with the "false faith".
He would have been like the christian fundamentalists, who like to base many/most of their views on the old testament, but he would have been more consequent.
If I based my morals on the old testament I coulnd´t condemn Hitler or Stalin for the things they did, as genocides were a rather normal behavior for "gods chosen people", often even done or ordered by god himself.
If stalin was a christian, then in communist russia, christianity would have been compulsory. We had that in England once, and about 5 civil wars sorted that out.
#811910 is right. Hitler professed Christianity publicly; but he also publicly stated opposition to Christianity because it had Jewish roots. (He was also sympathetic to the "warlike" Norse paganism and apparently bought into occult and proto-"New Age" stuff.) He was raised Christian, but his beliefs in his later life were too insane to fit under any heading.
Stalin was religious as a youth, but he later subscribed to a particularly nastily authoritarian Communism.
Hitler was a christian, Lutheran, with some added occult mysticism. And if I'm not mistaken, Stalin was Russian Orthodox. And there are christian leaders who kill indiscriminately all the time. Just look at Dubya. So your assumptions are bullshit.
Edit: It wasn't Stalin who was RO, it was Lenin.
Are you a liar or a fool? Since Hitler was a CHRISTIAN who claimed he was doing God's work by murdering millions of Jews, all your other points are equally idiotic. Apparently you people over there aren't just limited to discussing a Bible that you haven't read, you also discuss history without having read any history books.
"I believe that I am acting in accordance
with the will of the Almighty Creator:
by defending myself against the Jew,
I am fighting for the work of the Lord"
--Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf
". . . I am convinced that I am acting as the agent of our Creator. By fighting off the Jews, I am doing the Lord's work."
- Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf
"We were convinced that the people need and require this faith. We have therefore undertaken the fight against the atheistic movement, and that not merely with a few theoretical declarations: we have stamped it out."
- Adolf Hitler, 1933 speech in Berlin
"... I do not merely talk of Christianity, no, I also profess that I will never ally myself with the parties which destroy Christianity."
Adolf Hitler, February 15, 1933, speech in Stuttgart
I strongly suspect that if Hitler had been an RR brand "True Christian"(tm) that he wouldn't have contented himself with the attempted extermination of just Jews, Poles (of all denominations), Romany, Slavs, gays, intellectuals and the disabled.
Hitler wasn't a Christian. He espoused 'Positive Christianity', a nazi-approved form of the religion as a means of control, but there are serious discrepancies between what he said about various religions in public and in private. It appears that he used religion more as a political means, but believed in some kind of 'active deity'... he was completely, utterly crazy.
But saying 'Hitler was a Christian' is putting it way too simply.
Would it hurt you retards to do a little research before posting your garbage?
Hitler was a Christian and talked about doing God's work in his speeches.
Stalin's purges had more to do with cementing his hold on power than any atheism on his part.
While were at it, why not comment on President Bush. Such a good Christian that he launched an unwarranted war on Iraq after lying to congress and the American People. You fundies always seem to ignore that one.
I dunno, did Stalin do whatever he did for the lulz or for the atheism?
Because atheism doesn't say we're supposed to kill anyone. It's totally neutral about morals, so it's not like you can kill in the name of atheism.
Hitler and Staling were both Christian, or had at least been raised as such.
Besides, it's not like Christians haven't ever killed anybody.
Newsflash:
Christians kill shit tons of people all the time.
Hitler was a Christian, and he killed shit tons of people.
If Stalin was a Christian, he still would have killed a shit ton of people.
Hitler was raised a Catholic, of good standing. He was even an altar boy. He went on to fuck up Europe. The rest is history.
Edward Heath (Prime Minister in the early 70s) was an Atheist. He brought the UK into the EEC. Europe is now stronger as a united financial, industrial & political entity than it ever was.
Now what does that tell you?
Hitler was a Christian.
Stalin killed people because he was a paranoid bastard, and he would have been a paranoid bastard even if he was a Christian.
Bastards are bastards no matter their religion or lack thereof.
If Stalin had been Christian, he'd have been one of the most psychotically authoritarian strains of Russian Orthodox. (He did, after all, train for the clergy.) You wouldn't have liked him much more.
To everyone that says calling Hitler a Christian is too simple, I feel the need to point something out: This is rather like Rapture Ready's stance on "True Christianity." Christianity is the largest religion in the west, but relatively few of them are very knowledgable about the Bible, and practically no one embraces every aspect of the Bible.
The definition of Christianity is worshipping Jesus, discrepencies & alterations aside. That's why we have multiple strains of Catholicism & Protestantism.
Wonder what would have been different had Hitler or Stalin been a Christian? 150 million people would probably be happier--at least alive to decide if they were happy or not.
That may not entirely be true.
"Wonder what would have been different had Hitler or Stalin been a Christian?"
Hitler WAS a Christian dumbass, quit denying actual history!
Hitler was a psychopath. His religion is irrelevant, since he would have found a justification to kill people in his mind anyway. Ditto Stalin.
What is much more interesting is the ideology they used to gain power and turn the rest of the ordinary folk into killers.
Confused?
