there are religious athiests, but not all athiests are religious. As time goes on ive been seeing more and more religious athiests.

since atheism =/= nihilism, i dont see anything too objectionable with this quote. Buddhists are typically atheists, and a lot of atheists ive met still have inexplicable attachments to superstition or objective morality.
When one says they "got religion", it doesn't mean what you think it means.
Also, when I say Google is my God and Savior, I don't always mean it ;p
there are religious athiests
No, there is not. That is an oxymoron. That is like saying: that bald man sure got a lot of his real own hair on his head. It just doesn't make any sense.
but not all athiests are religious
Make that, all atheists are not religious.
As time goes on ive been seeing more and more religious athiests.
As time goes, I see more and more pigs flying backward wearing a tutu, nylonpanties and a scream mask.
there are religious athiests, but not all athiests are religious
That depends largely on what you mean by religion. There are several "religions" that function more like philosophy and contain no "god" belief, such as many forms of Buddhism.

I doubt that, and I doubt that you meant "religious" in the sense I described above.
The atheists are getting hammered way more than us Pagans. But then again these fundies don't quite grasp the term "atheism.". Religious atheist seems to be an oxymoron. Kind of like logical, tolerant fundamentalist. The atheists I know are good folks and do not tell me I'm going to burn in the Lake O' Fire. Therefore, Atheist-1, Fundie,0.
Hi Spartan. As a matter of interest, what behaviour do atheists display that makes them religious?
Don't hold your breath folks.
But it would be interesting if SpartanOstrich15 did reply.
This isn't fundy. I know of two people who are atheists (not just agnostics, full blown atheists) but considered themselves LDS. I asked one of them why, and she said it was because she enjoyed the ritual and stability that comes from religion in her life, even if she did not believe in any kind of higher spiritual being. It was the weirdest thing, and I have never really wrapped my mind around it completely, but there you go.
Now, I know that I live in the bible belt, so there's not many atheists down here, at least not any that are open about it, but I do know quite a few atheists, and I have yet to meet a "religious" atheist. I thought that was a contradiction of terms. But that's just me, using my brain again.
@ alex : They're suffering from the "what you hear is what you get" syndrome, which is fine in German, because that's how German spelling works.
They hear "Ay-thee-ust" so they spell it "A-thi-est".
Why am I doing this even ? The obvious answer is because they can't read, otherwise they'd have noticed the crap that the bible spews.
Meh, any atheist that is outspoken and confrontational will be regarded as "religious" by some fundies.
To avoid this label, you'll basically have to keep quite and hide in some hole somewhere.
Religion has GOD(s) and worship of same
Or it's not a religion
Religiously persueing something is not the same, in that context it's meant as rigourally exercised.
Except I'm missing the context, this isn't a fundie quote. There are religious atheists. Some Buddhists are examples of atheists who adhere to a religion, and that's only if limit the interpretation of the term "religion" to its morethe colloquial definition.
You've been seeing more and more images of Jesus in toast as well, I bet.
Lithium is your friend. Trust the doctors. They know what's best for you.
OK, Sparty, tell us which gods are the that the atheists believe in that they don't believe in?
I just saw a quote here on another thread. I shall paraphrase. What allows fundamentalism to flourish is a combination of ignorange and stupidity. Enough said.
Anton Levays Satanic church is recognized as a religion in America, so is scientology which is actually considered a pyramid scheme in other countries (cause it is)
American law recognizes a religion as a gathering of those with a figurehead (by law doesn't have to be a godhood claim)a book, adherance to it and ritual.
I still say the dictionary definition demands a God
Confused?
