Looking at the political spectrum, totalitarianism = leftism, so, by definition, any and every totalitarian dictatorship is on the left. The greater the covernment control, the further left on the political spectrum, with Nazism and Communism being on the extreme left. In contrast, the further right on the political spectrum, the less the government control, with anarchism being on the extreme right.

After readin Naturalized Texan's post, it becomes clear that Christian fundies don't merely redefine words. They have their own lexicon Christian fundies are taught, essentially, to speak a different language, the same way Scientologists are taught to speak a different "langauge" to isolate them and make it difficult for them to communicate outside the cult.
Anyway, NT, here are the conventional definitions. Please use them when speaking with ordinary people. Economic conservative: In favor of low or no taxes and small government. Economic liberal: In favor of higher taxes (especially for the rich) and a government that supports the people through public services, help for the poor, and similar. Social conservative: In favor of government meddling in peoples' lives. Believes that the government should tell you who you can and can't marry, have sex with, or be friends with, what jobs you can have, what you can do for fun, where you must live, what level of education you're allowed to have, what you must believe, and more. Social liberal: Believes the government should not meddle in your life, can't spy on you or invade your privacy, and can't tell you to do anything more than obey the law. Social liberal + Economic liberal = Progressive Democrat. In favor of freedom, in favor of public services and helping the needy. Social liberal + Economic conservative = Libertarian. Believes the government should be minimal. No public services, no meddling, no nothing. The government should do nothing more than protect the country and enforce the law, and the law should only prevent harming other people. Social conservatice + Economic liberal = common Catholic position. The government should provide public services and help the needy, but should also tell people how to live their lives and restrict freedom. Social conservative + Economic conservative: Most Republicans and today's Religious Right. The government should be an oppressive power, restricting freedom to marry who you want, do what you want, learn what you want, and believe what you want. The government should ban harmless acts that may even bring enjoyment and save lives, and enforce the ban. The government should not provide public services or help the needy; it should simply oppress. Here are some real world examples. Nazism and fascism in general: Believes in private property and capitalism (economic conservative) and restricts personal freedom, often killing millions of people (social conservatve). Communism (in principle): All resources are shared equally. The government makes sure everything is fair (economic liberal). Communism is merely an economic principle, consistent with any social values. Soviet Union (in practice): Restricts personal freedom, sending dissenters to Siberia (social conservative). In theory, provides welfare and support for the needy (economic liberal). Also, David D.G. and Blake: His username is "Naturalized Texan," which would imply he's not actually a native of your home state. He's lowering your state's average IQ, but at least he wasn't spawned there.

Thus the right-wing's insane notion that 'Hitler was an Atheist'; on the basis that Stalin, as dictator of the USSR was, by definition an Atheist. Well, got news for ya, pal: there's evidence to suggest that Stalin was Russian Orthodox; the church basically had to keep quiet & generally not interfere with his government, nor question his policies & dictats. Oh, and as for 'Hitler being an Atheist', prepare to have your argument completely annihilated:

One more thing (certainly based on the above evidence): If you 'God-fearing Fundamentalist Christians (which, by definition you're supposed to be; name just one member of the GOP who is known to be an avowed Atheist?) of the 'right-wing' in the US as you claim you are, and therefore are supposed to be pro-Israel, how do you account for Hitler?

In Revolutionary France (calm down, you can't "catch socialism" from hearing someone talk about France), the members of the National Assembly were arranged from right to left on a party basis. The advocates of a return to absolute monarchy (a precursor to totalitarianism) sat on the extreme RIGHT, while the party called the Sans-culottes (made up of extreme democrats and some anarchists) was on the extreme LEFT. This placement was the origin of the left/right political "spectrum" we have today. Thus: the right wing ("conservatives") are those who are, broadly speaking, opposed to change, while the left wing ("liberals") promote change. The definitions of "left" and "right" have of course changed over time, but it is general knowledge that fascists (including Hitler and the Nazis) are extreme right wing, and communists are extreme left wing. Most people are nearer to the middle, although Republicans in the United States are drifting farther and farther to the right.
In short, you have absolutely no idea what the fuck you are talking about (which pretty much makes you just an average fundie).
