Big Mac, Patrick: I'm straight, but I have been the subject of flirtation and "chatting up" from gay males before (I'm not sure that's the same thing as "hitting on," but I've always understood them to be about the same), and a couple of times even to the point of outright propositioning.
I meant no gay guy I know and I would't hit on a guy we/I know is straight, especially a homophobic one.
@Anonymous- As I suspected, when I was in the Navy, and there were always these guys who were "surprised" when the clothes came off (or during or after sex) that they were with a gay guy, and they beat him up for it. Same guys had these stories every couple of weekends.

I'm straight but have been hit on by other males on more than one occassion, and even engaged in flirtation with a few on a couple of occassions. It was all in good fun, and is really harmless - and a little flattering. I am confident enough in my own sexuality that this does not bother me in the slightes.
