My mum and dad say it's much better nowadays, everyone can get an education, you are not allowed to hit your children, nor rape your wife or husband, most kinds of adult consenting relationships are recognized and respected, women have almost as much say in matters as men, and they have almost as much pay for similar jobs (not perfect yet, but it's getting better).
