Atheism is a religion that contains several fanatical leaders such as David Bedford (self ascribed messiah), Richard Dawkins (Who wants to de-religionalize the world), and Sam Harris (believes in "good" torture of muslims). If you read what these nuts wroite, you can see the hypocrisy they preach and the lunacy of atheism. Its like the rise of the thid reich all over again. Atheism is a religion, it requires just as much faith to not believe in a CREATOR and believe in "other" explanations as it does to believe. To all those atheists who believe that religion in one's life hinders your intelligence, well I just have to suggest to them to research all of the scientific breakthroughs in the world by people who believe. To start with, look up the leader of the human genome project.
Thats all folks!

I was going to say something snarky, but he said "That's all, folks!".
Well played, greencardlink. Well played indeed.
It should be required by law that everyone should be required to think for at least 5 minutes, and read at least a hundred words per day.
I can't understand how most other trends come and go, yet illiteracy and being a fool is something that is apparently celebrated no matter what century.
Religion in your life doesn't hinder your intelligence, but it doesn't assist it, either. It's what might be called immaterial evidence.
And no, it takes more faith to believe something despite a lack of evidence than it does to believe something because of a lack of evidence - even if neither is particularly logically sound.
"Atheism is a religion..."
I'm sorry, greencardink, that's incorrect. Please return to your desk and try again.
"To start with, look up the leader of the human genome project."
I read his book. He can't supply any real evidence to support his position. I think he's a poor deluded man trying to reconcile science with faith, and, as with all who attempt that, is caught between a rock and a hard place.
Who the hell is David Bedford and how the hell can anyone be a messiah in a non-religion that doesn't that accept Gods or messiahs exist? You, greencarddork, may require "faith not to believe in something(?)", but to those of us with some amount of common sense, it is one of the dumbest, most contradictory to definition of faith, idiotic statements ever posted here.
Atheism is a religion, it requires just as much faith to not believe in a CREATOR and believe in "other" explanations as it does to believe.
So if you admit both require faith, what makes their beliefs any more "hypocrisy" and "lunacy" than yours? Oh, yeah. You've got a Bible. So does the Flying Spaghetti Monster.
Why does dawkins want to de-religionize the world if atheism is a religion?
That makes no sense, but at least we can all agree that atheism strongly resembles the rise of the third reich. It's uncanny really.
Atheism is a religion that contains several fanatical leaders such as ... Sam Harris (believes in "good" torture of muslims).
greencardick has obviously never been to Free Republic.
Atheism is a religion, it requires just as much faith to not believe in a CREATOR and believe in "other" explanations as it does to believe.
Maybe you should stop trying to use LOGIC and stop "thinking" all together. You're terrible at it.
To all those atheists who believe that religion in one's life hinders your intelligence, well I just have to suggest to them to research all of the scientific breakthroughs in the world by people who believe.
I don't know any atheists who think that religion 'hinders your intelligence', but being religious certainly doesn't contribute to it.
Time to hit the stock market and invent with companies that make straw, the rate fundies are building strawmen making straw is a growth industry.
Atheism by the defintion of the word, not a religion and hence also by definition can have no messiahs. Additionally it takes no faith to not believe in a creator, as no evidence for a creator exists. Nor does it require belief to accept scientific alternatives as they, unlike your religion are backed evidence.
If you really want to read some insane lunacy, read your entire Bible not just the 2 dozen or so passages you hear over and over at your fundie church.
"That's all folks!"
I don't have any faith in my belief that there is no god. I simply feel that given the lack of evidence for theist claims and given that it's more amazing for an all powerful, sentient being to come into existance on its own than the matter that makes up our universe, atheism best fits my current understanding of the universe around me. Show me a god and I'll change in the second. However, someone with dogmatic faith like yourself isn't likely to admit that they are wrong, even if someone built a time machine and was able to give you video recordings that showed the writers of your bible talking about what to make up. I can hear the excuses of some already; "Those videos are the devil's work, trying to trick us so we don't receive our salvation. I have my faith and none of these lies will make me give that up! <insert random bible quote here>"
@Zadic
Arthur C. Clarke described something strikingly similar in "Childhood's End". In the novel, aliens end war and strife on Earth, but do not show themselves to Earthmen for over a generation. The reason is simple, they physically resemble the stereotypical image of demons (horns, cloven foot, bat wings, etc.).
Part of their gift to mankind is a television capable of displaying images from the past. According to Clarke, that spelled the eventual death of most of the world's religions except for Buddhism.
Personally, I don't think it would apply in real life. The fundies would probably take up arms and try to destroy "Satan's minions".
Oh my god, Berny, thank you so much! I read that story ages ago, and couldn't remember the name of it... XD Been wanting to re-read it for a while now...
TB Tabby; you could do a Google search. But then again, if someone describes themselves as the Messiah, it's likely to merit a Wiki page.
Atheism is not a religion; it has no leaders, no God, no holy book, no nothing. So there, bitches. :P
Atheism is a religion, it requires just as much faith to not believe in a CREATOR and believe in "other" explanations as it does to believe.
Let's look at another subject with this "reasoning".
It requires just as much faith to NOT believe in centaurs as it does to does to believe.
There are stories about centaurs.
There are pictures of centaurs.
Centaurs are spoken of as if they actually exist.
But do you believe in centaurs?
Does it take you as much to disbelieve centaurs as to believe in them?
Hardly.
Your saying something doesn’t make it true. And your saying it despite the contrary evidence tells me you are being intentionally difficult or you are deluding yourself.
Whoops, greencardink, you mentioned the Third Reich! That's automatic disqualification for inciting Godwin's Law. Thanks for playing, though.
"To start with, look up the leader of the human genome project."
Yes, Francis Collins is a christian. But he has also indicated in a recent interview that he is a little tired of anti-science fundies who try to hold him up as a poster boy. He accepts the findings of his scientific work and uses them for the betterment of mankind. More than greencardink has ever done I'll wager.
Atheism tends to indicate a complete LACK of religion. One day, when you finally learn what words mean, you'll understand why I'm laughing at you, greencardink.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
