@#1113184:
"Seriously guys, what does communism, a government which encourages populist revolutions against wealthy landowners who keep down the common man, have anything to do with equal rights?
(Of course, in practice Communism is far too authoritarian to not get corrupted, but I don't hold that against the philosophy behind it - in the same way I don't hold Democracy itself responsible every time a USA politician takes a bribe or votes to bailout corrupt businesses.)"
My thoughts exactly! It seems to me that Communism, as a concept, is a great idea...but it never seems to work out right. I remember once in the car my mom made a negative comment about Communism. I said, "What's wrong with Communism?" She was like, "Uh...", as in, "Uh, are you f***ing kidding me?" So then she said about how it always turns out awful, and I said, "Well that's because they always do it wrong!" I cannot really see it ever working in practice, though. If humans were not so human, then maybe...
My aunt lives on the Gulf Islands in British Columbia, and she says the Native Americans who used to live there used to hold a sort of potluck, where they'd redistribute the wealth by having the wealthiest distribute their excess among everyone else. I really like that idea, and I think it sounds like a great system. But then of course, the Europeans came and put a stop to that soon enough. Dx
@KHarn:
It was a pain in the ass for the Southerners because they were more narrow-minded and bigoted. Equal rights are always going to be a pain in the ass for some group or another otherwise, no progress would ever be made. Duh.
How horrible it must've been to be on the receiving end for a change. After all, the black people had been on the receiving end of slavery, and then racism, segregation, and anti-miscegenation, for decades. I guess peacefully showing their discontent was just going a teensy bit overboard though, huh?
Viet Man? Who's Viet Man? Is that like Super Man? Can he stop a speeding bullet?
