[Would you vote for an atheist to be president?]
No, I wouldn't vote for an atheist. You guys tend to be very angry, and you're rather whiny as well. I don't want to elect somebody who's angry at God, whines about it all the time, and who worships science.

GAA! I need 100 posts or more to add a post to that thread. I think I'm eventually going to lose my account there.
arunma, I don't have an idol I kowtow to every day so I can show how angry at God I am. Nor do I whine about it all the time. Especially considering that I have religious friends.
Mike, many of those who feel that evolution clashes with their theologies and want Genesis taught in school believe they can accomplish this by claiming science is a religion. It isn't working, but they just keep saying it and saying it.
*You guys tend to be very angry...*
Not all of us. There are a lot of kind atheists.
*...and you're rather whiny as well.*
Only when religion is shoved down our throats.
*I don't want to elect somebody who's angry at God, whines about it all the time, and who worships science.*
We don't worship science. Even if we did, what does this have to do with presidency?
You know what makes me angry?
Uninformed bible-bots like yourself. Learn at least, what you are bitching about ahead of time, m'kay?
Worships science. What a dipshit...
I'm not angry at god, I just don't believe in him. I'm angry at fundies like you.
I don't whine about it all the time, I can keep my opinions to myself, unlike most fundies.
I don't worship science, because science doesn't need worshippers, unlike religion.
So what you're saying is that if you had a choice between a potentially brilliant president who happened to be an atheist and a dumb redneck jerk who was likely to screw up the country but believed in a sky fairy, you would vote for the redneck.
If that's the case you are far to retarded to be allowed to vote at all.

Article. VI. [ Annotations ]
All Debts contracted and Engagements entered into, before the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be as valid against the United States under this Constitution, as under the Confederation.
This Constitution, and the Laws of the United States which shall be made in Pursuance thereof; and all Treaties made, or which shall be made, under the Authority of the United States, shall be the supreme Law of the Land; and the Judges in every State shall be bound thereby, any Thing in the Constitution or Laws of any state to the Contrary notwithstanding.
The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the Members of the several State Legislatures, and all executive and judicial Officers, both of the United States and of the several States, shall be bound by Oath or Affirmation, to support this Constitution; but no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States.
Next time one of you morons whines that the US persecutes Christians, I want you to think about how slim the chances of an atheist being elected President are.
You control just about everything. Stop whining.
Why do they always accuse us of worshipping something/someone? What part of 'atheist' don't they get? Is it the 'a' at the front? Because I thought that was really clear. Can they not imagine any existance where they don't have to groundlessly love and respect some invisible force?
WE DON'T WORSHIP ANYONE OR ANYTHING. THAT IS WHY WE ARE ATHEISTS.
Atheists are not angry at God, we simply don't believe any gods exist.
Atheists don't worship anything, dinkwad.
I would love the opportunity to choose from several qualified atheist candidates. how wonderful it could be to have leadership that doesn't believe fairy tales are true. Too bad those suffering from religious delusions will never let that happen.
1) Angry at god - Atheists don't believe in god so this is just wrong.
2) Whines all the time - Sounds more like a fundamentalist christian than anything.
3) Worship's science - Better to say respects science and what it can do.
Angry at god? Nah, I don't give a damn about fictional characters. I do think fundies are an abomination, but, other than insulting them here and voting against their positions every time the occasion arises, I don't give them much thought so I'm not whining, either. And, as a rational person with a decent level of self-respect, I don't worship anything.
You are not God.
Just because every rational person you've ever met has walked away fuming and desperately trying to gnaw off their own head, doesn't mean they are "angry at God." It means you're an infuriatingly dense little fundiebot.
The whining usually comes from the fundies (see any number of posts about "we're so persecuted because we can't persecute others").
Atheists worship nothing. They respect science, because it happens to be in everything, but they don't 'worship' it.
0 for 3. You fail. Go back to school, do not pass Go, do not collect $200.
AANASB. Also, you can't be angry at someone who you don't think exists. Also, there are plenty of non-whiny people who don't worship any higher power. Also, only a scant, imbalanced few actually WORSHIP science.
No, I wouldn't vote for a fundy. You guys tend to be very angry, and you're rather whiny as well. I don't want to elect somebody who's angry at all people who don't share her or his delusion, whines about it all the time, and who regards science as the direct literal inspiration of Satan.
There. Fixed it for you.
You guys tend to be very angry And he bases this stereotype on what? The atheists he and other fundies have provoked into anger?
and you're rather whiny as well. In what way?
I don't want to elect somebody who's angry at God, whines about it all the time, and who worships science. I hate it when they try to pull things like science and logic down to their level. Disrespect personified.
If ever I have the chance to run for president I would. I would promise to bring Prayer back in school, because as you see it's already allowed so already my job would be done.
When asked if I am a god fearing person, I will say I believe without giving specifications, leaving it open ended could lead to them assuming I mean religion and god.
Maybe I could hopefully understand that God, Allah are the same person along with both holy books.
Verily, I am a Genius!....FSTDT here I come!
I couldn't vote for a fundie. They tend to lie too much, especially about the Constitution, and the Bible(neither one of which they seem to have read, although they seem to lie most about that).
I'm angry at people who try to screw with my country. I can't be angry at God if I doubt he exists. Heck, the villian in "Pan's Labyrinth" made me more angry than the notion of God ever did.
How about this - the atheists/agnostics will lobby the government to pass laws that infringe upon human rights. We'll see how "whiny" you get. Oh, wait, except fundies tend to like that taking away rights thing.
Worship science? Science is a tool, not a supernatural deity. One can love science with a passion, be in awe of it, but still not worship it.
Every oppressed minority can be described as angry and whiny if they aren't completely apathetic. Angry because they are being oppressed and whiny because they do not have enough power to actually improve their position much, so all they do manage to do can be dismised as mostly futile whining by the oppressive majority. As a non-American I'm not going to try to make any precise statements about the amount of oppression atheists suffer in the USA, but they are definitely not generally respected and definitely are a minority.
arunma
I suppose if there were an atheist out there who openly admitted that atheism is a foolish religion, and was merely an atheist out of an inability to believe in God, then I might vote for him. I suppose what I'm trying to say is that the only atheist I'd vote for is the one who views his atheism as a personal flaw (I know that'll offend some people, but I'm just being honest about my voting habits).
Well, I respect his honesty, but not his voting habits.
I have two criteria for voting:
1) What issues are important.
2) What likelihood would they have to deal with said issues.
Religion is not a part of my voting criteria, but I think that this notion of air and water quality being less important than gay marriage to be depressing. If I weren't mistaken, it's found after "restoring media balance"
"I don't want to elect somebody who's angry at God, whines about it all the time, and who worships science."
I don't want to elect somebody who's angry at science, and whines about it all the time.
and you're rather whiny as well
I think this is confusing 'atheist' with 'liberal'; a common mistake for a fundy.
It's also confusing 'whiny' with 'concerned about human rights and welfare'. Another common mistake for a fundy.
Par for the course, really.
Actually, come to think of it, when you strip away all the bullshit, this just boils down to "I'll vote for someone who maintains the status quo."
It's just regular conservatism dressed up as fundy.
That's funny, after reading a large number of the quotes on this site and the forums attached to them I'd have to conclude that it's the religious types with the anger and hatred issues. All the talk of beating, raping, murder, not to mention what half of them say they'd like to do to atheists!!
I'm a little scared of Christians actually!
Confused?
