I must point out that my evolutionist friend was stating that evolution disproved Genesis, hence is Genesis is disproved then the rest of the Bible is also.
I steered the debate from Genesis into the other 65 books. He was found wanting, and started that debate by denying Jesus ever existed... etc.
In a sense, how the creation has come about is not actually that interesting to me, though it makes me chuckle when people say things are scientific facts. But to suggest we have evolved from apes seems absurd.

You are, in fact, correct in thinking this is a fallacious argument if that is what he said. The disproof of one absurd claim by that book does not refute the rest of it automatically.
However, what it does do (and what he might have actually meant and you have misinterpreted) is refute the claim that the bible is the inerrant word of god, which means it is no longer rationally possible for anyone to have blind faith in it without evidence. If it's not entirely inerrant, then for all you know without evidence, any and all of the rest of it could be wrong.
"I must point out that my evolutionist friend was stating that evolution disproved Genesis.."
As does geology, archaeology, genetics, astronomy, astrophysics, et al.
"In a sense, how the creation has come about is not actually that interesting to me.."
Why am I not surprised.

Humans didn't evolve from apes, I suggest you actually learn about evolution so you can atleast ask coherent questions.

Even if evolution were disproved tomorrow, physics, astronomy and geology also disprove Genesis, so disproving evolution wouldn't help Genesis anyway.
And here is the essential failing of the vast majority of Christianity. They are unable to grasp that the Bible, being a human-authored and many-times-translated book, may not, in fact, be 100% literally true and accurate. They take the position that you must accept every last word and letter as total truth or you aren't "Christian."
Think of how ridiculous that is. Have these people never heard of the term "metaphor," or "similie," or "parable?" Oh wait, they have heard of that last one, but they take the ludicrous position that the only person in the entire thousands of years of history described in the Bible that ever spoke or wrote in parables was Jesus. What, did he invent the parable or something?
It's just pathetic, and the only reason I can see for it is terrified intellectual lazines.
She's actually right, if only because she got her science wrong, as she said it it IS absurd. Mankind didn't evolve from apes, we just share a common ancestor and virtually all of the same genetic structure.
And man having been sculpted from mud by an invisible sky-man makes more sense? At least we can verify evolution, if not abiogenesis. And please, for heaven's sakes, would you religious idiots kindly learn that the two are not the same concept?
Apes: Eyes, nose, two arms, two legs, hair, ears, fingers, thumbs, mouths, teeth, etc.
Humans: Eyes, nose, two arms, two legs, hair, ears, fingers, thumbs, mouth, teeth, etc.
And the fossils that show a clear and unambiguous progression from ancient ape to modern ape(us).
Confused?
