America has gone to ruin. What has happened? I'll tell you what has happened... We kicked God's Word out of our schools in 1963. The Bible makes people smart. Without the Bible you're going to turn out a fool. People are idiots today. The Bible gives us wisdom from God, because it is God's Word. The Bible elevates those who believe it, love it, obey it and stand upon it! We've got a society of dummies today who don't care about anything because they've been educated since childhood without HEARING THE WORD OF GOD! They have no faith. People have no faith in God these days. They don't fear God. Romans 3:18

Yes, the Bible, full of sex and violence. You do realize that students can still read the Bible in school, they just can't disrupt other students while doing so. In fact, at our son's high school, there are several Bibles on on the library shelves.
The bible makes people smart... the Christians who actually read it tend to turn into atheists.
Does anyone really think that not forcing kids to pray every day in school is going to make people grow up totally ignorant about Christianity? What about the parents' job of teaching their kids about religion, if that's what they want?
By 1963, I was in college, so I went through those allegedly Bible-thumping schools. It amounted to the following:
1. Saying the Lord's Prayer as well as the Pledge of Allegiance;
2. Listening to some scratchy-voiced kid read a verse over th Intercom
all in the first five minutes of home room. I was in school districts that did it and school districts that didn't; if anything, the latter behaved better.
The Bible elevates those who ... stand upon it!
That's about all it does, and then only by about an inch or two/*snark
People have no faith in God these days. They don't fear God. Romans 3:18
Or worse - they don't believe in my god! How can we dominate the entire world when other people still want the right to believe in non-christian gods?! Having religious beliefs but worshipping the wrong god(s) is just as bad! It has to be my god! There can be no choice or I don't feel safe!
Everything has to be christian or the world will be destroyed part 99999999999999...
If the bible makes you smart, why do you not allow comments or discussion on your site? Surely if the bible has made you so very wise, you could point out the fallacy of any disputing opinion and make your case stronger. For that matter, why don't you bring your elevated self over here to FSTDT and show us how wrong we are?
Well Dave, isn't your god up to the task of guiding you in this matter? Would doing so take too much time away from ogling the teen-aged girls on the Disney channel? Or perhaps you are a cowardly blow-hard who can't stand behind what he says.
Personally, I would believe any of the above excuses.
We haven't "kicked God's Word out of" churches. If people want their kids to learn what's in the Bible, they can teach them at home, or, you know, bring them to church.
The Bible makes people smart.
Yeah, 'cause, as an engineer, pi = exactly 3 works so well for me.
Like things were so great in 1963 with segregation, Jim Crow laws and all gays still in the closet.
Oh, wait, I guess according to YOU that would be great you pissant.
I went to a public school in the '50s, and there was zero mention of any god or any bible-related topics.
Anyway, why single out the public schools for godlessness? The majority of American institutions, companies and other large-scale associations of people have been secular.
That entire article is amazing. The Federal Reserve and the New World Order are conspiring to deprive David J. Stewart a meek little woman who stays at home and makes him pot roasts and sugar cookies while pumping out babies. Oh, and it's okay if she pursues higher learning, as long as she learns to cook and clean and sew and maybe play piano. Just as long as she stays away from that dagburned TV and keeps off the telephone, that gossipy little trollop...
As someone who had an Christian education (although outside of the U.S.A.), I feel like the Christian part of my education did very little to change my intelligence. It did give me a glimpse of what is good in faith, instead of the bad part I got at home.
The Bible can provide a moral guideline for people, but you can do without it and still have strong moral values.
The U.S. Public School system does not forbid people to read the Bible or pray. You just can't force others to do that with you.
The main problem with religion in education seems to be a perceived clash with science. This clash is created by stricter Christians, who feel that evolution is wrong. If that clash results in choosing the faith of some, over scientific theories, than you dumb down kids. Not a moment before.
Why do I hear Sally Struthers?
Do you want to be smart? Sure! We all do. Read this book and you too could have a degree in:
Anecdote
Confirmation Bias
Entitlement
Exorcism
Prophesy
Proselytizing
Stoning
Smug Self-Righteousness
or Superstition

I assume that these 'dummies' have parents that are/were christian. So why didn't they take example from them. Why would children need to learn about religion from their teachers when there are christian parents, churches, pastors, priests, bishops popes and self-appointed prophets like you. And presumably these 'dummies' can read the bible?
Your argument is without any foundation. It's stupid, and speaks of its author with a clarity that I could not match.
The Bible does not make you smart. It's not meant to. It's meant to lead you to salvation, but it's subject matter is spiritual not intellectual. It's not meant to be a textbook.

Last I checked, most people go to church as children, and the countries with better education than us are also less religious...
Also, the idea that mere policy could kick an omnipotent being out of ANYWHERE is just stupid.
"Without the Bible you're going to turn out a fool."
Would that be the same bible that expressly forbids Christians from calling other people fools, or a different one?
"Without the Bible you're going to turn out a fool."
Did you just insinuate that the millions upon millions of people who never knew about the Bible for their entire lives were all fools?
I think that might be what bothers me most about these religious ideas, at least the ones that say "we are the only ones who are right." Wouldn't God do a better job of giving everyone a shot at believing what he had to say? So many people are never even exposed to it that to claim that all these people are morons/sinners/doomed is just nonsensical. (Of course I am aware that not all religious people believe this. But many do.)
"Without the Bible you're going to turn out a fool."
"But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire." Matthew 5:22
Uh huh. If the bible makes you smart fundamentalists wouldn't be so damn gullible, stupid, and willfully ignorant. You read the bible to learn about a religious text. Don't put any more value in it than that.
"We've got a society of dummies today who don't care about anything because they've been educated since childhood without HEARING THE WORD OF GOD!"
It's cute that you presume people don't subscribe to religion because they've simply not heard enough about the celestial dear leader. In my experience, most people reject the word of God precisely because they have heard too much of it.
This entire website is a jewel. Sanctimonious fundieism, NWO conspiracy theories, a headache-inducing dog's dinner of a layout; Stewart is like Jack Chick, Henry Makow and Gene Ray all rolled into one.
"We kicked God's Word out of our schools in 1963"
But we kicked it in during the 50s to show those commies what for!
"The Bible makes people smart. Without the Bible you're going to turn out a fool. People are idiots today. The Bible gives us wisdom from God, because it is God's Word."
You realized that you just refuted yourself?
"They don't fear God"
It's not wise to fear imaginary things.
Does his webhost know that they have on their servers a site run by a convicted child abuser? Whoever they are, it can't do their company's image any good to have such a nonce, even if he's paying for the privilege.
The sooner said company is told of this fact, and he's permanently reoved (and they let all other webhosts know; one word: blacklist ), the better for the internets as a whole, if this inferior subhuman paedo is removed from such, and is silenced in perpetuity.
"The Bible makes people smart"
Well, he's sort of right; people who actually read the bible realize how full of bullshit it is.
"The Bible makes people smart. Without the Bible you're going to turn out a fool."
Everything that I have seen in my life could be described by the exact opposite of that statement.
"The Bible gives us wisdom from God, because it is God's Word."
Circular reasoning works because circular reasoning works.
"The Bible elevates those who believe it, love it, obey it and stand upon it!"
So do drugs, you wanna give those to kids too?
"We've got a society of dummies today who don't care about anything because they've been educated since childhood without HEARING THE WORD OF GOD!"
Ah, so from not carring at all people get an agenda? Dummy me, I though that were STDs!
"They don't fear God."
And look, humanity has never been further developed - allthough that certainly isn't a high bar.
Confused?
