This announcement does not surprise me but I tend to wonder why he [atheist Congressman Fortney Stark] is putting his religion in our face.

Atheism is not a religion. Also, he's hardly putting his beliefs in your face, all he did was state them, which is a lot less then a lot of Christian congress people have done.
For the same reason that he could say you all evangelist are doing, because he´s in a free country. Oh yes, you think that you´re the only ones whose religion entitles you to be oppressive and harrassing.
Atheism is a lack of religion.
Are you upset because he didn't pretend to be another fundie?
How awful for you! Next thing you know, he'll be not-praying, and using logic instead of religious bias when it comes to laws!
Come on, let's hear the complaints about Ben Cardin (Jew), Bernie Sanders (Jew), Gabrielle Giffords (Jew), Ron Klein (Jew), John Yarmuth (Jew), Paul Hodes (Jew), Steve Cohen (Jew), Steve Kagen (Jew), Hank Johnson (Buddhist), Mazie Hirono (Buddhist), and Keith Ellison (Muslim).
Those are just the first-term US Senators and Representatives who have identified their faith as being other than some denomination of Christianity (which includes Catholicism and Mormonism).
Feel free to complain about the atheist stating his atheism, but don't get pissed off when folks complain about the president discussing his relationship with the Lord.
Ah, the old "If you agree, pass it on; if you don't, just delete it" argument. Sorry, we faithless are tired of shutting up, thank you very much. Now move over, we're taking a stool at the bar.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
