Sheep are incredibly stupid animals. Maybe that's why Jesus refers to us as his flock.

My goodness, I never thought it would be ever possible but if earp isn't a troll then he may have actually beaten Carico, Bro. Randy, supersport and dad in terms of sheer stupidity then.
Thanks for insulting billion of believers!!!. Anyway, I was raised in Connemara, West Ireland, where there is a lot of sheep. They´re not IDIOT AT ALL.
This person has apparently failed to comprehend the fact that Jesus often used parable and allegory to instruct those around him.
The position of shephard required a great deal of trust, courage, and intelligence.
The descriptions in the Bible about shephards knowing each sheep by name, physically hunting down each and every last lost sheep, and physically protecting each sheep from danger are legit.
By bringing up this analogy, Jesus was comparing himself to a shephard - someone who so cared for those under his authority that he would go to great length for them.
Abysses: That's how I read it, too.
This would make a good "Fundamentalism in a Nutshell" Award winner, absolutely, but I'm leaning more toward the "Truer Words Never Spoken" Award, in part because we've got a lot of good contenders for the Nutshell Award this month.

Troll? Fundies don't see themselves as stupid, FSTDT is more a litany of delusions of grandeur than anything else
There are fundies who believe Jesus called us sheep because sheep are stupid, and so are we. And then they point to evolution and atheism as proof of this idea.
This must be fake. No fundy would knowingly call himself "stupid."
Then again, Jesus' prediction that his servants would be "sheep" is probably the most accurate prophecy anywhere in the Bible.
OHHHHHH you have no fucking idea...
Torquemada:
It's all about forced humility. Let me give you an example.
I can't blame religion for my chronic depression, but the exhortation to humility and self-debasement certainly seems to have strongly affected the form it takes. I'm borderline non-functional as a person (parent's basement, overweight, constantly on the computer, you know the stereotype) because of this, and given that I grew up devoutly Catholic, religion isn't the only contributor to my state, but it's got to be a big one.
I can only imagine how other negative religious or philosophical influences would have affected me, what form my depression would take if I was raised as, say, a Nietzschean.
How did i miss this one? If it's legit, it's pure gold. It's kinda like someone looking into the hose to check why the water's not coming out and getting a faceful, but only if that person then got the hose and strangled themselves with it.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
