Y'know, the reason I'm a Buddhist is BECAUSE of its non-violent ways. One, we don't have an ultimate God that tells us to kill people in His Name. Or condemn homos using the fear of hell, for that matter.
Name me three incidents in which Buddists waged war in the name of Buddhism. Then name thirty where Christians wage a holy war in the name of Christ.

Wars HAVE been started over Buddha's various body parts a long, long time ago, and there is a lot of violence in some primarily Buddhist nations, but yeah, nothing like the Crusades.

Yeah, there's a few of THOSE types even among the Buddhists, but for the most part Buddhism is a pretty mellow religion, focusing more on enlightenment than anything else. There's a lot for a rationalist to dislike in most Buddhist practices, but also quite a bit that is not bad at all.
Uhmm... should I point out the fact that Bhuddists don't believe in an omnipresent, omnipotent being?
Also: who do Bhuddists kill? They've killed themselves ritually in protest but they don't go on rampages or murder sprees. Actually Bhuddism is the most peaceful religion around.

1) It's spelled "Buddhists".ahimsa , or the Way of Peace - ie, nonviolence. Some take ahimsa to the point of pacifism.

Buddhism is, for one, an atheistic religion, and it's against killing people. So where'd you get that marvelous chunk of BS from?
The only time I remember Buddhists killing others was back during a revolution or something like that. The ordinary citizens told them, "If you believe as you do, then you would understand WHY we need you to help us fight." After that, the monks took up arms and joined the battle. They referred to this as "killing with kindness" I think.
Compare with Christianity, which has things like the Crusades and witch hunts under its belt.

Buddhism also came up against the Confucian establishment in China, there was some violence there. Certainly the White Lotus Rebellion in Qing China was centered around the return of the Buddha.
In Japan, Buddhist monasteries would field armoured warriors to enforce their will. Didn't end to well for them though, after the Shogunate popped up.
So, yeah, Buddhism... not perfect... but this? Bloody foolish.
