the founding fathers made sure when they created this country that only people with skin in the game could vote.
im all for that. if we had been wise it would never have changed.and we wouldnt be in this mess were in now.
except id add a few more requirements to it. one, you had to have served your country and either retired or discharged honorably. two, you were 60 years of age or older. by the time someone makes it to 60 theyve usually got their heads screwed on straight. that would help curb any excesses of youth. three, no one who has received or is currently receiving welfare or ss is allowed to vote ever, because they can and will vote to give themselves greater benefits

Because nobody with a job or even someone who is rich has ever voted solely for his/her own benefit. This is something only poor people do.

Starship Troopers was fiction.
(And I am aware of the fact that I am posting this right after a commenter named after another Heinlein book. ;-) )

As long as that skin was white. Which is probably what you're getting at with all your restrictions, right?
Democracy, as long as you agree with me!
"because they can and will vote to give themselves greater benefits"
Yeah, 60 year olds never do that.

Dude, if you live here you've got skin in the game.
I hope that you wouldn't dare complain about the subsequent gearing of policies towards a certain, very small, section of old people. If you're old yourself, then you should stop being selfish, and you should remember that you are being hypocritical if you then complain that the young whipper snappers don't care about the elderly nowadays.
In those preceding sixty years, they must never have used public roads or utilities, and must never have had to call the public-supported police or fire departments, and must never have been employed by a company that received federal contracts or bailouts, and must never have attended a church that didn't pay taxes, and must never have been paid by the government, and must .....oh dear, that lets out the military, doesn't it.....
Kuno beat me to the SST reference.
Though I do kinda like Heinlein's idea about earning the right to vote. Because it was earned, it was something special for the characters.
So you don't want to let people vote until they're sixty, but as soon as they start collecting Social Security (at 70-1/2 at the latest), they can't vote anymore?
I agree that there should be more to voting eligibility than just being a warm body. However, it should be something on the order of "check which of the following is a statement by candidate X" to show that you've actually been paying attention.
because they can and will vote to give themselves greater benefits
Not that seniors ever vote for any politician who says he will increase/protect their pensions/entitlements, no sir.
In short, you hate the Constitution.
I think the government would lose its legitimacy quite fast if it only catered to over 60 war veterans who haven't used social security yet. (which i imagine you need as you get older). this would probably leave under a million people who could vote, and why should anyone else pay taxes if their government doesn't cater to their interest at all? taxation without representation anyone?

So I guess that leaves out the human victims of the Yautja.
But then, when they're skinned by Predators, they're also sans skulls & spinal columns: which makes them perfect GOP material! X3
Should work out well, all those able-bodied people in the military and police forces that are heavily armed will happily enforce your laws and not care that they don’t have a vote.
A Coup d'état would be such fun, even if they are passé
Confused?
